As Democrats prepare for the debate stage tonight, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the winner of the Iowa Caucus, said that Christianity is incompatible with supporting President Trump.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s comments and also previewed tonight’s Democrat Presidential debate.

CNN’s Erin Burnett asked Mayor Pete Buttigieg if he thought it was impossible to be a Christian and support President Trump. Here’s what Mayor Buttigieg said:

Well, I'm not going to tell other Christians how to be Christians. But I will say, I cannot find any compatibility between the way this president conducts himself and anything that I find in scripture. Now I guess that's my interpretation. But I think that's a lot of people's interpretations. And that interpretation deserves a voice.

Pro-Life legislation, 190+ conservative judicial nominees, and religious freedom initiatives being pushed forward as we speak, are just a few of the things I can think of that are compatible with Christianity that President Trump has done.

In my opinion, Mayor Pete Buttigieg really is telling you that in order to be compatible with your Christianity, you really can’t support President Trump even though his policies line up with a Christian conservative worldview. I’m not saying that if you are a Christian that you have to support President Trump, but the idea that you can’t, that it’s not compatible, is incorrect. Just look at the policies that he has put into place.

We’re all flawed people. No one is perfect, regardless of what faith you hold or how faithful you are. The more faithful you are, the more you know that. We all try to do our best, and what the President’s job is to do his best through policies.  That’s how you should judge him. Judge him by the actions he takes as President and on those policies that he enacts, like defending life and religious liberty. He called for an end to late-term abortions during the State of the Union, for example.

Meanwhile, as I reminded everyone, just a few days ago Mayor Pete appeared on The View talking about how late-term abortion or at birth abortion – infanticide – was fine. I argued, and I imagine many of you agreed, that’s incompatible with Christian faith, according to Scripture.

How do you feel about Mayor Pete Buttigieg telling you as a Christian that you can’t support President Trump?

We discussed that and more. You can hear the rest of the show with further discussion of Mayor Pete’s comments and tonight’s Democrat debate by listening to the entire episode here.
