In a rare moment of unity, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar – a member of “the squad” – praises President Trump’s response to COVID-19.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s praise for President Trump’s handling of this crisis, this war that we are engaged in on this virus.

This is a rare move, and something you would not have expected. Congresswoman Omar’s praise for President Trump’s actions tells you the times we’re living in.

My son Logan Sekulow joined the show today and described the praise for President Trump’s actions:

I think it’s a huge move. I think we’re seeing positivity being spread amongst people in Washington and around the world. I do believe we’re on a precipice of a really interesting time in American politics. It feels a little bit like the time immediately following 9/11 where people started to actually become one, unified, and started to say positive things.

This was from Representative Omar. It was actually a retweet first.

The original tweet came from Lee Fang, a journalist from The Intercept, which is not exactly a conservative paper or news company. He said, ‘Trump suspending mortgage foreclosures, demanding cash payments to Americans, now invoking the Defense Production Act to force private firms to produce needed supplies is incredible. Kind of a shell shock for anyone who reported on any economic policies in the Obama years.’

And then doubling down, Representative Omar, who is not exactly a fan of the President or is not exactly a fan of a lot of the people who listen to this show said: ‘Politics aside, this is incredible and the right response in this critical time.’ She added a hands clapping emoji at the end.

Representative Omar followed it up with: ‘Finally, we should never let politics get in the way of good policy. This is a great start and hope others will be a part of a united front to push for good policies that will help us work through the economic anxiety the country is feeling right now.

You are seeing a massive change. Just a few weeks ago this would never have happened.

ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett made the following point:

We don’t have to agree on everything in order to work together now. We’re starting to see that. We saw it when we saw the House of Representatives pass the initial Senate bill by unanimous consent. We saw it again yesterday as the Senate passed by a vote of 90-8, the bill that Speaker Pelosi put together. There are a lot of Republican Senators in that chamber that didn’t like everything in the bill and they passed it anyway because they have to work together. They are working on that third bill. Based on the comments out of Speaker Pelosi’s office, I fully expect that she would do the same thing.

We also discussed the launch of a brand-new Facebook page where you can see some of the good work others are doing, from churches to musicians, during this time of crisis. Like The Sekulow Community on Facebook to learn more.
