Leading Democrats are breaking with Speaker Pelosi and are saying it’s time to send the articles of impeachment over to the Senate.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed the current state of impeachment and that several members of Speaker Pelosi’s own party are now calling on her to send the articles to the Senate.

House Armed Services Chair Adam Smith illustrated this when he said on CNN:

I think it was perfectly advisable for the speaker to leverage that to get a better deal. At this point, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. And yes, I think it is time to send the impeachment to the Senate and let Mitch McConnell be responsible for the fairness of the trial. He ultimately is.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (SC) said earlier today on Fox News:

The Pelosi impeachment dam has broken. You’ve had 5 Democrats come out today and say, send over the articles. You said it was urgent, if you believe it to be urgent, send it to the Senate for disposition. She’s losing Democrats in the Senate. The impeachment dam of Nancy Pelosi is about to crack.

ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow and ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow were not with us today because, in their capacity as outside counsel to the President, they are in Washington preparing for the looming impeachment trial in the United States Senate.

So where does impeachment stand? It is no longer just Republicans who are tiring of Speaker Pelosi’s game here. Now there are leading Democrats, not just back benchers, who are calling for the delay to end, and for Speaker Pelosi to send the articles of impeachment to the United States Senate. One of them is the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. I think the game is just about up. In my opinion, Democrats in Washington, D.C. are nervous about Speaker Pelosi’s current track.

The number of Democrats calling for Speaker Pelosi to send the articles to the U.S. Senate has grown since Senator Graham appeared on Fox News. I’m keeping a running tally, and quite frankly I can’t keep up with the number who are now calling for the articles to be sent to the Senate. Senators John Tester, Chris Coons, Doug Jones, Chris Murphy, Richard Blumenthal, Joe Manchin, Angus King, and Diane Feinstein have all expressed the view that it is time for the trial to start in the United States Senate. Some of them go further than others.

This is a developing situation and we’ll of course keep you updated as things continue to unfold.
