We’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether the House impeachment impairs any of the President’s powers to act, both domestically and internationally.
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar basically gives suggestions to Iran on sites to target for their terror attacks in response to the killing of Qasem Soleimani.
On Today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed the question of whether impeachment hampers President Trump’s national security efforts and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s horrific tweet.
We’ve gotten a lot of questions since the articles of impeachment passed the House of Representatives about whether or not these articles somehow impair the President’s ability to act, both foreign and domestically. Foreign, it would go to the attack that killed Iran’s chief terrorist Qasem Soleimani. Domestically, people even wonder as to whether the President can make judicial nominations.
The short answer as to whether or not the President’s powers are hampered as a result of impeachment is no.
ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett made the following point on the current state of impeachment:
I think there is a general expectation that the articles will be sent over at some point, essentially because there’s not a strong leg for Speaker Pelosi to stand on to try to have it both ways, To try to say the President is impeached and yet to try block Senate from doing their job to try the impeachment. I’m not sure on timing, but I do think it will happen soon.
On one side you have Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Schiff saying we have to rush so quickly that we can’t take the time to wait for the witnesses to take the testimony, oh but you, the United States Senate, we don’t have the majority. You must call witnesses and you must call the ones that we want. That is not a tenable argument. I think the American people know it. Quite frankly, I think even the House of Representatives knows it. I think eventually, this is going to land in the United States Senate.
There you go.
We also discussed how Congresswoman Ilhan Omar told to the whole world, hey, all those Trump Org. businesses, those could be targets for Iran. She’s suggesting targets to the enemy. Here’s what she tweeted:
Trump needs to immediately divest from his businesses and comply with the emoluments clause. Iran could threaten Trump hotels *worldwide* and he could provoke war over the loss of revenue from skittish guests.
His business interests should not be driving military decisions.
That is one of the sickest things I’ve ever seen from a Member of Congress. The killing of Qasem Soleimani, I think, is really bringing out the true Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
