Today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanded that articles of impeachment be brought against President Trump from the House of Representatives.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live we discussed how Speaker Pelosi’s argument in favor of impeachment centered on a false charge of obstruction.

Speaker Pelosi said:

All I hear from the press is that I’m moving so swiftly, that it’s like a blur going by. This has been a couple of years, 2 and a half, since the initial investigation of the Russian involvement in America’s election, which started much of this and then led to other things.

Note that she mentioned two and a half years, meaning the Mueller Probe on alleged Russia Collusion. The probe that found there was no collusion, and didn’t even determine that there was obstruction.

Speaker Pelosi also said:

When you keep asking, why don’t we wait for these court cases...the President’s actions in sending all these...taking these things to court and then bumping them up in court is an obstruction of justice, and so we’re not going to be accomplices to his obstruction of justice. We have our constitutional responsibility, we have our facts, and we will act upon them.

Also keep in mind that Professor Jonathan Turley, who is no fan of the President, testified before the House Judiciary Committee the following:

I can’t emphasize this enough, and I’ll say it just one more time. If you impeach a president, if you make a high crime and misdemeanor out of going to the courts, it is an abuse of power. It is your abuse of power. You’re doing precisely what you are criticizing the president for doing. We have a third branch that deals with the conflicts of the other two branches. And what comes out of there and what you do with it is the very definition of legitimacy.

Clearly, those words fell on deaf ears. Speaker Pelosi is trying to make a case for impeachment out of President Trump’s legal and proper use of the courts and the right to appeal. She is blatantly ignoring due process.

If you are going to impeach a President for utilizing his constitutional rights, you are not only shredding the Constitution, you are threatening the very existence of our Republic.

ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett made the following point:

I really think that it’s a case of out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Until this point the Speaker has been telling us that this is a process that did not start two and a half years ago. This was all about the Ukraine call.

Of course now that she’s faced with charges of rushing this along, to beat the New Year for political reasons, I might add, she’s going to reach all the way back to the Mueller process. She’s put her conference on notice that they need to be in town through the 21st and the 22nd. I think it’s a clear indication that she is trying to get it over the line by then. It’s not a case of following the facts where they may lead. It’s a case of looking at the political calendar and deciding when she wants her conference to be through this process.

We also discussed the work we’re doing at the International Criminal Court’s highest chamber this week at The Hague in the Netherlands. My father, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, is leading a team there right now, defending the interests of U.S. soldiers who have and are serving in Afghanistan.

My father reported that things are going well and it continues tomorrow. We’ll continue to keep you updated.
