President Obama’s Last Minute Lawless Attempt to Bail Out Planned Parenthood
As his Administration wanes to its close, President Obama is preparing to implement a new regulation that flies in the face of our Constitution, federalism, and our Founders’ foundational belief that every human life is worthy of inherent dignity because each life is made in the image of God.
The Obama Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services has just issued a final rule that has only one goal – to prohibit states from being able to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers responsible for ending nearly one million vulnerable lives each year.
The Washington Times has more details:
President Obama is delivering a generous parting gift to Planned Parenthood in the form of a rule prohibiting states from divesting millions of dollars from the nation’s largest abortion provider.
The final version of the rule, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday, requires states to distribute dollars from Title X of the Public Health Service Act without taking into account whether recipient clinics perform abortions.
The edict is set to go into effect Jan. 18, two days before the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. . . .
Rep. Diane Black, a Tennessee Republican who sits on the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, said the Obama administration “will not have the last word” on the rule.
“We should not be surprised that his administration would lash out with this eleventh hour power grab on the way out the door, but I am certain this rule will not stand for long,” Ms. Black said in a statement.
It’s exactly what we said would happen. As the most pro-abortion President in history, President Obama is issuing new lawless regulations forcing you to continue funding the abortion industry in his final hours in office – literally going into effect two days before the end of his term.
In discussing this new regulation, the Obama Administration parrots the talking points of Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion advocates. They claim the rule increases access to family planning and preventive services. But these euphemisms can’t cover up the truth – this regulation is merely meant to protect Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from states that want to ensure their taxpayers’ money goes to actual medical centers that provide comprehensive care to women.
While pretending to promote health care for women, the abortion industry continues to slam the sacrificial work being done at pregnancy resource centers and the thousands of clinics that provide counseling, education, aid, and health care services for women and families in need. And all the while, Big Abortion lobbies for regulations, like this one, that protect their bottom line and allow them to continue to degrade and destroy the lives of women and their unborn children.
We know what the real legacy of Planned Parenthood is. We’ve continued to work at the ACLJ to uncover the real costs of abortion. Planned Parenthood ends more than 323,000 innocent lives each year. They receive half a billion dollars in taxpayer money each year. And this latest effort by the Obama Administration and the abortion industry protecting nearly $60 million of those dollars must be stopped.
As the Obama Administration nears its end, it’s never been more important to be a voice for the voiceless and defend every life. We know how to stand up to this latest “eleventh hour power grab.” After Planned Parenthood was caught selling aborted babies’ body parts, our advocacy helped lead to criminal referrals for prosecution from both the House of Representatives’ special panel and now the Senate Judiciary Committee.
We are working tirelessly on Capitol Hill to convince Congress to block this regulation under the Congressional Review Act. And as the new Administration prepares to take office, we are actively urging them to repeal all pro-abortion regulations – whether they are forcing nuns who serve the poor to pay for abortion pills or finding ways to use our taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.
The next Administration must reinstate the Mexico City Policy and the Reagan Rule to ensure states’ decisions to defund Planned Parenthood are upheld in court.
Every life is made in the image of God. Every life deserves protection.
