Planned Parenthood Posts All-Time-High Record Abortions and Taxpayer Funding as Profits Soar and Cancer Screenings and Supposed Other “Services” Reach Shocking Lows
Planned Parenthood once again just set new records for the number of unborn babies killed in a single year and the excessive amount of taxpayer funding it took in, while simultaneously setting new record lows for the number of supposed other “services” it provides. This once again begs the question, how can Planned Parenthood – the largest abortion provider in America – once again get away with claiming that it doesn’t really focus on abortions? Why exactly does it need to take in more of our taxpayer funding as its supposedly helpful services drastically decline?
Once again, Planned Parenthood demonstrates that unfortunately, despite claims to the contrary, the abortion industry in America continues to thrive. Planned Parenthood recently released its 2020-2021 annual report, which shows that the abortion behemoth hit some tragic all-time records this past year.
Over the course of the last year, Planned Parenthood – which claims that abortions comprise a minuscule amount of its offered services – committed a record 383,460 abortions, up 8% (or 28,589 more unborn babies slaughtered) from the previous year. At the same time, it took in an all-time high $633.4 million in taxpayer funding. The abortion giant also posted its second highest annual profit on record, banking $133.7 million more than its expenses, up 91.8% from the previous year, as well as a record-high revenue of $1.7 billion (yes, that’s billion with a B).
This means that YOUR tax dollars subsidized America’s largest abortion provider at a higher level than it has ever done before. In fact, that’s $15,300,000.00 in taxpayer dollars more than the last record-setting year. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood’s number of total services decreased by over 1.7 million from last year (that’s a 16.6% drop in one year) – resulting in an at-least a 12-year LOW of under 8.65 million total “services,” meaning that abortions constituted an even greater percentage of its services than ever before.
As we’ve explained previously, Planned Parenthood deceptively hides behind its total number of “services” figure to skew the numbers, disguising its abortion practice with claims that it also provides a variety of other services, such as adoption, prenatal, and well-woman services. This claim proves to be less true every year. From its latest report, it’s clear that non-abortion services are not a priority to Planned Parenthood. In the last year, several non-abortion services decreased, with some of the services drastically dropping by upwards of 30%.
As I explained last year:
Specifically, Planned Parenthood disingenuously touts its adoption referrals, but it cut the service by nearly 40% in a single year. In 2018-2019, Planned Parenthood reported an abysmally low 4,279 adoption referrals (compared to more than 345,000 abortions); and in 2019-2020, that number dropped to a mere 2,667 adoption referrals (down 37%). At this rate, it’s hard to imagine that this will even be a service provided in the next two to three years.
Unsurprisingly, in 2020-2021, that number fell through the floor once again, as Planned Parenthood could only provide 1,940 adoption referrals (down yet another 27%). Think about that. Planned Parenthood referred 1,940 women for adoption while performing 383,460 abortions this past year. That’s about 200 babies killed for every child it refers for adoption.
Adoption referrals were not the only non-abortion service to decrease this past year. Cancer screenings dropped 30% from last year, continuing its eye-popping 77% decline in such cancer screenings since 2009. In addition, the “healthcare” provider hit lows in its other non-abortion services as well. Testing and treatment of sexually-transmitted diseases was down 18% from last year; contraceptive services were down 14.5% and have been steadily decreasing since 2012-2013; prenatal services numbered a meager 8,775—the third lowest in the past 12 years. Given the record-high number of abortions and the abysmally low number of other services, it is clear that Planned Parenthood is not prioritizing women’s health and is merely in the business of generating profits from its abortion clinics.
In light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s rightful decision in Dobbs to overturn Roe v. Wade, hopefully Planned Parenthood’s report next year will reflect a significant decrease in funding, profits, and abortions as individual states act to ban abortion.
At the ACLJ, we truly care about women’s health and the lives of the unborn. Planned Parenthood is the number one threat to unborn children, and it preys on women in their darkest hour of need. That is why it is so important that we continue our work to defund Planned Parenthood and protect pro-life pregnancy resource centers that genuinely care for and help women and babies in need. We can continue to be a voice for the voiceless, but we need YOU.
