The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has proposed a new pro-life rule requiring stricter compliance with federal law that prohibits taxpayer funding for abortion. This is something we’ve been advocating for years.

ObamaCare has expanded taxpayer funding for abortion, and an abortion surcharge buried in ObamaCare could be forcing millions of Americans to unknowingly pay for abortions.

Under current regulations, insurance companies are failing to separately identify abortion coverage surcharges for customers. As a result, many U.S. taxpayers are unknowingly paying for abortion coverage. Therefore, while customers – like you, who are legally required to obtain a minimum level of insurance coverage – are complying with the law, current regulations allow insurance companies to ignore it.

HHS’s proposed rule would fix this problem by providing greater oversight and requiring transparency to promote compliance with already established federal law. This oversight and transparency will prevent federal funds from being used in violation of federal law to pay for abortion services. Further, it will protect the rights of conscience of U.S. taxpayers by preventing their funds from being unknowingly used to pay for abortion services.

The ACLJ is preparing a formal public comment to file TOMORROW in support of this HHS rule. You can make your voice heard by: (1) signing our petition supporting this pro-life HHS rule below, and (2) submitting your own public comment in support of this rule here.
