How To Stop the Radical Left's Attempt To Make Roe Permanent
What we have now seen since the leak of the authentic Supreme Court draft opinion in the monumental case that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade is that the Left is weaponizing this draft to attempt to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law as early as next week. To do that, they would need to get rid of the legislative filibuster in the U.S. Senate. The Left is willing to throw everything out to save this “right to abortion” and the abortion industry they are beholden to.
This is the biggest fight of our generation. The Left worships at the altar of abortion. Even President Biden advocated to “abort a CHILD,” when he said:
The idea that we are going to make a judgment that is going to say that no one can make the judgment to choose to abort a child based on a decision by the Supreme Court, I think, goes way overboard.
ACLJ Chief Counsel and my dad Jay Sekulow countered the President’s shocking statement:
Listen to what he said. . . . This tells you . . . when we said they worship at the altar of abortion, that is basically what you are seeing happen right now. We said the abortion laws have distorted the First Amendment and Justice Alito in his draft opinion says yes, and cites one of our cases, it distorted the First Amendment because all of the rules change. Now, you’ve got the President of the United States saying “abort a child.”
So now, before one of the most monumental rulings on life is even announced, the Left is trying to plan ahead for if the Court actually does overturn Roe v. Wade. ACLJ Director of Government Affairs Thann Bennett gave his take on how the vote to codify Roe could go down:
I would put in three different buckets. . . . The first is . . . the effort to codify Roe v. Wade. There are two Republicans, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, that would be willing to vote with Democrats on that issue. Now Joe Manchin . . . opposes it. In that universe, you have 51 votes in favor of that. However, two things . . . the bill that they are going to put forward next week actually isn’t just a codification of Roe, it is also an elimination on every pro-life restriction that is already on the books in the states. And on that issue, it looks like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are probably okay. However, Susan and Lisa are the main sponsors of a narrower bill that still codifies Roe v. Wade. So, what I’m concerned about is maybe they will try to pull a sleight-of-hand here, instead of putting up a bill . . . that has already failed, they might put a bill that looks like the one that those two Republicans sponsored and ask them if they might be willing to provide the two votes to nuke the filibuster that Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema won’t give them. That sounds like a lot, but . . . yes, they do have to get to 50 votes twice. They have to get it to nuke the filibuster and . . . to codify Roe. But they don’t have to use the same mix of 50 votes to get to those two. They could use a couple of Republicans to clear one hurdle. Then use all Democrats to clear the next one.
ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell explained how this leak was for political purposes:
It’s sad. I think it is an attack on our public service. We expect bureaucrats, and people who are paid by the U.S. government, or by government agencies, to be of service to the public and not to have their own personal agenda. But I think you have to blame the media here for over the last 20 years abandoning the idea of public service or fair coverage to immediately evolve into, anything goes as long as your agenda is furthered. Whoever leaked this document had an agenda and decided to abandon public service. They are being paid by U.S taxpayers and they are ignoring U.S. taxpayers. . . . We have to get back to bureaucrats and public servants . . . who work for the people, not for the agenda. When we find these people, they need to be fired, we need to weed them out. I will appeal to anyone . . . that works in government or is paid by tax money, out your colleagues. Police yourself. Let’s figure out who are the bad apples and get rid of them because you are losing your credibility with the American people.
While the Left is working to find ways to make Roe permanent, they are also trying to attack our free speech through the new “Disinformation Governance Board.” And to make matters worse, as we told you, the head of this new board – Nina Jankowicz – has a pattern of partisan censorship.
In the Senate hearings, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was asked by Senator John Kennedy if the department was aware of Jankowicz’s vouching for the accuracy of the Steele dossier. Sec. Mayorkas responded:
One, we do not discuss internal hiring processes. Two, I was not aware of that fact. Three, as a Secretary of Homeland Security, I am responsible for the decisions of the department, and it is my understanding that Ms. Jankowicz is a subject matter expert in the field in which she will be working on behalf of the department.
DHS finally put out a “fact sheet” to try to clarify what “disinformation” they will be targeting after criticism on both sides of the aisle. We are fighting back on this DHS board, we have already filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to get to the bottom of this. We will continue to monitor both of these ongoing situations and provide you with details as they come.
