Have They No Shame?

By Joseph Williams1426698391000

This week in Congress, Democrat Senators blocked an anti-human trafficking bill because it doesn’t publicly fund abortions.

Read that again. Pro-abortion extremists are trying to kill an anti-human trafficking bill that enjoyed broad bipartisan support. Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist has more of the story:

The bill was introduced January 13, 2015. It ended up with 13 Democratic co-sponsors. Folks like Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR). Oh, and even Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and three other female Democratic senators. A hearing was held on the legislation on February 24; and the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send it to the Senate with a vote of 19-0-1 on February 26.

Yet somehow, ten of the Democrats who sponsored the bill ended up voting to filibuster it yesterday after NARAL and Planned Parenthood suddenly went against it last week. Of the 13 Democrats who once loved this bill enough to sponsor it, one, Boxer, dropped her co-sponsorship on March 10, the day Planned Parenthood and NARAL launched their public relations campaign. Another 10 voted to filibuster it, leaving only Sen. Robert Casey (D-Penn.) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) voting with Republicans to end debate and proceed to a vote.

So why in the world does the abortion lobby oppose a bill to help victims of human trafficking? Well, this may be hard to believe, but the abortion lobby opposes this bill because it doesn’t provide public funding for elective abortions. The bill includes a standard Hyde amendment, which bans federal funding of abortion with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Big abortion uses lies and deception to pressure Democrats to drop support for the bill and confuse the public about what was really happening – the abortion lobby is prioritizing its extreme agenda above vulnerable women and children who are victims of human trafficking.

NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and their pro-abortion allies on the Democrat side of the aisle in the U.S. Senate believe tax-payer-funded abortion-on-demand is more important than vulnerable and victimized women and children. They claim that the pro-life language in the bill is what is standing in the way of the bill passing. But facts are stubborn things. And the facts are these: Hyde Amendment language is relatively routine to ensure federal funds do not pay for abortions-on-demand and pro-abortion Democrats “lost the debate about the Hyde Amendment 40 years ago,” as Eleanor Clift points out in The Daily Beast.

Stand with us at the ACLJ by signing this petition to continue fighting the big abortion lobby’s efforts in Congress to protect the most vulnerable among us – vulnerable victims of human trafficking and unborn children.

Join us as we take on Planned Parenthood in court by asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review and reinstate a lawsuit accusing the Planned Parenthood (PP) affiliates of California of illegally overcharging the government – and thus taxpayers – over $200 million.

Stop Forcing Pro-life Centers to Promote Abortion

By Michelle Terry1497033231285

Yesterday we filed an amicus brief (a “friend of the court” brief) before the Northern District of Illinois in a continuation of our nationwide fight on behalf of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (“CPCs”). These amicus briefs allow us to set arguments and legal analysis before a court in cases where we are...

Defending Pro-Life Speech at Supreme Court

By Geoffrey Surtees1496418724497

Can the government compel pro-life pregnancy centers—facilities that offer abortion alternatives and support to women—to tell their clients that they might be able to get a free abortion, paid for by the state? While the State of California says, yes , the First Amendment says, no . As explained in...

Planned Parenthood Abortions, Profits Soar

By ACLJ.org1496332297790

The numbers are shocking. Earlier this week, Planned Parenthood released its annual report for the 2015-2016 fiscal year after a six month delay. What this report devastatingly confirms is what we have been arguing all along: Planned Parenthood is in the business of abortion, its priority is not in...

Pro-Life Victory at the White House

By Jay Sekulow1494964603668

Earlier this year, I wrote about the significant pro-life victory when President Trump reinstated Ronald Reagan’s Mexico City Policy to prohibit the use of U.S. taxpayer money in foreign aid to organizations that either fund or promote abortions around the world. President Trump did exactly what...
