ACLJ Files Amicus Brief Asking the Third Circuit Court of Appeals To Stop New Jersey Attorney General From Harassing Pro-Life Pregnancy Resource Centers

As we’ve said before, the abortion industry and its political allies have been executing a nationwide, coordinated assault to stifle and shut down the lifesaving work of pro-life Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs).
One such effort is taking place in New Jersey. As you’ll recall, a few months ago, we filed an amicus brief on behalf of the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative (PPWC), New Jersey Right to Life (“NJRTL”), and the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (“NIFLA”), urging the Supreme Court to hear a case regarding unjust treatment of First Choice Women’s Resource Center (FCWRC), a PRC based in New Jersey.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case at that stage, and it returned to the district court level. The PRC’s request to stop the New Jersey Attorney General from enforcing a subpoena against them was denied at the district court and is now being appealed to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. We just filed an amicus brief at the Third Circuit asking the court to grant the pro-life center’s request for an injunction and to find in favor of the PRC on the merits of the case.
As we informed the court in our amicus brief, PRCs are incredibly important in the fight for preborn life. They provide much-needed aid and resources for women who find themselves in crisis pregnancies – aid that actually uplifts and empowers women rather than simply convincing them to allow the assassination of their own children. Over the decades, PRCs have provided millions of dollars’ worth of support to mothers in crisis pregnancies, and many have provided quality medical services to them as well.
Yet despite the overwhelmingly positive role they play in the lives of women and preborn children, PRCs are under attack across the states.
In our brief, we detail the multipronged lawfare attack being waged against PRCs in numerous states and, specifically, New Jersey. For example, we make note of the joint open letter issued by 16 state attorneys general, headed by Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California, that we told you about earlier this year, in which PRCs were labeled as “deceptive” and accused of “rob[bing] patients of their healthcare choices.” Additionally, we provided 10 different examples of how PRCs have been attacked at the state level through consumer alerts, investigations, and various legislation.
A victory, in this case, would be a huge win for PRCs, not just in New Jersey but also the entire country. That’s why the ACLJ has joined in requesting declaratory relief for the pro-life center from the Third Circuit and why we will continue to advocate for pro-life rights everywhere.
