This has been a busy summer for all of our offices at the American Center for Law and Justice.  On June 16th we filed our opening brief at the Supreme Court of the United States in our case out of Utah.  That case will have significant ramifications for the display of historic monuments, Ten Commandment displays, and even the Statue of Liberty.  Ive been leading a team as we have been preparing for the next phase of briefing in the case.  In just two weeks we will receive the reply brief from Summums counsel.  We will then start working on our final brief which will be due September 15th.  Oral Argument before the Supreme Court of the United States has now been set for November 12th.  I will be making the oral presentation before the Supreme Court of the United States.  Im also happy to report that the United States Department of Justice has filed on our behalf and they will be participating in the oral argument as well.

On August 12th, Jordan Sekulow is leading a team in London, England on behalf of a Christian convert from Islam.  In fact, he was studying to be an imam, which is a religious cleric within the Muslim faith.  He and his wife have become very devout Christians and are quite evangelical in their witness for the Gospel.  The difficulty is that they are now facing deportation to Syria.  This effectively could be a death sentence for them.  We had Adnan on radio just a few weeks ago to give his personal testimony and I encourage you to listen to the program here.  (link to program)  Our television crews will also be in London so we will be able to bring a report to our TV audience as to the status of the case.

We also are preparing for the challenge of the Defamation of Religion Resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.  The hearing is tentatively set for mid-September.  We have already filed our opening brief opposing this resolution which would in essence criminalize the proclamation of the Gospel in Islamic countries.  In fact, this resolution could have much broader implications for the rest of the world with regard to the proclamation of the Gospel.  Im leading a team of lawyers from our European Centre for Law and Justice and our Washington, DC office to challenge this resolution.  If the hearings go forward in Geneva in September, I will be presenting the oral intervention at the Human Rights Council before the United Nations.

This is just a sampling of the work load that we have been engaged in this summer.  I will keep you posted as these cases continue to develop here in the United States and around the world.
