President Trump always does things differently, and this weekend was no different when he once again made history as the first sitting American President to step foot on North Korean soil.
On today’s broadcast, we discussed the President’s unprecedented meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where President Trump actually crossed the demarcation line.
In true President Trump fashion, the meeting was set through, of all channels, Twitter. While in Asia, the President tweeted an open invitation to Kim Jong Un:
After some very important meetings, including my meeting with President Xi of China, I will be leaving Japan for South Korea (with President Moon). While there, if Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello(?)!
The two leaders shook hands across the DMZ before President Trump stepped over the border, officially entering North Korea. The two leaders then returned to the DMZ where they shared a brief meeting.
Some members of the mainstream media have tried to downplay this monumental meeting as little more than a photo-op, but it seems clear both men were pleased with the outcome. And the major historic significance of this meeting cannot be minimized. President Trump has already made greater strides toward a new, peaceful relationship between North Korea and the West than any previous U.S. leader.
South Korea’s President Moon praised President Trump as “the maker of peace in the Korean Peninsula.”
During his Asian trip, President Trump also had an extensive meeting with President Xi of China to work out a new trade deal and said he was “optimistic” about reaching an agreement.
