Since President Trump rightly declared a national emergency at our southern border with Mexico, the Left and the mainstream media have continued to claim there is no emergency, calling it a manufactured crisis. Yet just days ago, a key Democrat who served under President Obama stated emphatically that “by anyone’s definition” we have a very real border crisis.

On today’s show, we discussed a statement by President Obama’s Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Jeh Johnson, that our immigration system is overwhelmed and we have a true emergency.

Appearing on Fox News this weekend, former Secretary Johnson told Neil Cavuto the U.S. is in fact facing a crisis at the border and needs increased security immediately:

“By anyone's definition, by any measure, right now we have a crisis at our southern border. According to the commissioner of [Customs and Border Protection], there were 4,000 apprehensions in one day alone this past week, and we're on pace for 100,000 apprehensions on our southern border this month. That is by far a greater number than anything I saw on my watch in my three years as Secretary of Homeland Security . . . . On Tuesday there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that 1,000 overwhelms the system and I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like, so we are truly in a crisis.”

This came after a briefing by Kevin K. McAleenan, Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which began with the grim statement that our immigration system has officially reached its “breaking point.” According to Commissioner McAleenan:

“The increase in family units is a direct response to the vulnerabilities in our legal framework where migrants and smugglers know that they will be released and allowed to stay in the U.S. indefinitely, pending immigration proceedings that could be many years out.”

That’s a direct report from the border. The facts are in. The crisis is real. The Left is still refusing to admit that fact or come to the table to discuss a solution. And that is putting our national security at risk.

It’s time the Left listen to one of their own and do the right thing for the American people.
