American KILLED by Iranian Drone
An American contractor was just killed by an Iranian drone when it attacked a Syrian base being used by the U.S. military. This despicable drone strike injured three American soldiers as well.
As reported by the New York Times:
A U.S. contractor was killed and another contractor and five U.S. service members were injured when a self-destructing drone struck a maintenance facility on a coalition base in northeast Syria on Thursday, the Pentagon said in a statement.
U.S. intelligence analysts concluded that the drone was of “Iranian origin,” according to the Pentagon statement, which said the attack took place near Hasaka at 1:38 p.m. local time.
In response, at President Biden’s direction, Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III said he ordered airstrikes against facilities in eastern Syria used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, or IRGC.
And after the U.S. rightly struck back, Iranian proxies launched a second attack, firing rockets at a U.S. military base in Syria. These deadly strikes may have happened on Syrian ground, but make no mistake: These were direct attacks on America.
Iran is feeling emboldened enough to attack our troops. The IRGC is testing us. And why wouldn’t they? The entire world has watched as President Biden displays a dangerous combination of incompetence and weakness in the face of hostile nations. Russia, China, even North Korea – no one is afraid of the U.S. under the weak-kneed Biden Administration.
And, folks, Iran is terrifyingly close to having a working nuclear weapon, and that will change everything. A nuclear-capable Iran is a grave threat to the entire world. And now they’re provoking us and killing Americans in the process. This is no game.
ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joined us on the broadcast this morning and expressed a complete lack of surprise at this attack, stating that Biden’s record of appeasement only emboldened Iran to launch an attack:
Those soldiers have been on the ground there for quite some time. This was the force that was leading the charge to take down the caliphate during our years there when we needed Americans on the ground to assist the indigenous forces in crushing ISIS – which was cutting people’s heads off when President Obama was in office.
The residual force that had remained there was attempting to secure, provide a continued stability, and deter terrorism from that region. But the fact that this has heated up, the fact that the Iranians are now feeling freer to move about the cabin, is consistent with the fact that the United States, for months and months and months, was sitting with the Iranians at the table, trying to figure out how to make sure the Iranians had a pathway to a nuclear weapon. The fact that they knew full well that they were likely to get the sanctions lifted on their regime; the fact that the United States no longer is as close a supporter of Israel, the Arab states, the Gulf Arab states, are now thinking, Gosh, I need to hedge my bets with Iran.
All of those things are a part – it all seems disconnected, but this all drives from a central thesis, which is that when you appease the Iranians – the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism that has killed hundreds of Americans and thousands of people across the world – when you appease them, they’re going to take advantage of it; and we saw that today.
Let’s hope that President Biden finds his resolve at some point to stand up to Iran and shut down its nuclear ambitions before it’s too late. If Iran is so emboldened by Biden’s weakness that it would allow its proxies to attack America with its weaponry, what do you think will happen if it gets its hands on a nuke? All bets are off.
Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes more reporting on last night’s Iranian drone attacks on American troops that also killed at least one American civilian working as a military contractor. Along with Sec. Pompeo, we're joined by ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell, who shares his reactions to the attacks in Syria and the Biden Administration's response.
