There have been more than 1.7 million encounters at the southern border in 2021. That is the highest number of illegal border crossings and contacts in a fiscal year to ever be recorded. Yet, the Biden Administration is nowhere to be found. President Biden has still not even been to the border to see it for himself.

When President Biden was asked during a town hall if he has seen the border crisis, he responded

I have been there before, and I haven’t – I mean, I know it well. I guess I should go down. But the whole point of it is: I haven’t had a whole . . . lot of time to get down. I’ve been spending time going around looking around at the $900 billion worth of damage done by – by hurricanes and floods and – and weather, and traveling around the world. But I plan on – now, my wife, Jill, has been down.

The President of the United States guesses he should go down there? That is an unacceptable answer from the leader of our country during a national security crisis. When a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki why the President said he’s been to the border when he has not, she backpedaled:

There has been reporting that he did drive through the border when he was on the campaign trail in 2008 and he is certainly familiar with the fact – and it stuck with him – with the fact that in El Paso the border goes right through the center of the town.

A drive by in 2008 is not sufficient for the all-time highest surge of migrants that we have ever seen under his watch. ACLJ Senior Counsel Andy Ekonomou explained what we are simply asking for:

You can’t understand a problem unless you go there and see it yourself. We’re not asking him to go to New Zealand or Australia. . . . We’re asking him to get on Air Force One and to fly an hour and half or two hours to the southern border and spend some time there with the border patrol agents. . . . This is becoming a drive-by presidency. That’s all he is; he is looking for taco stands. That was 13 years ago. Things have grown substantially in 13 years. . . . The numbers show . . . the immense surge in migrants who are coming across and encounters that we are having. You don’t think that hasn’t changed in 13 years? He was there 13 years ago and rather now, he would take a bicycle ride . . . in Delaware where he is from, rather than go to the border and give a . . . firsthand encounter with the border agents and see what the situation is. I mean in Del Rio and parts of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona that are on the front line in this massive invasion. He needs to do that.

President Biden is used to not being held accountable for these crises and having to answer the questions that the American people deserve to know. He’s been a politician his entire career. He even admitted to elementary school students that an aspect of his job as President is to avoid questions from the media:

As President, see all these people here? They are with you all the time. They get to ask you all kinds of questions, and you try to figure out how you’re gonna avoid answering them sometimes.

Just because you avoid the issue at hand doesn’t mean it will go away. Actually, this situation looks like it will continue to get worse. It has been reported that a migrant caravan filled with thousands of people are making their way to overwhelm the border even more than it already is. These migrants are even calling the President out by saying, “Tell Biden we are coming.” Too bad President Biden won’t be there.

ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison summed it up best:

What we are now witnessing is the unraveling of an unserious Administration. This particular Administration has been absent without leave in Afghanistan. It’s been absent without leave at the border. It’s been absent without leave with respect to the transportation crisis. . . . At the end of the day, when Jen Psaki claims that Joe Biden is well versed in border issues, this statement is an indictment of Joe Biden. After all, the Biden Administration has deliberately created a national security and humanitarian crisis at the border. And when called to account, Jen Psaki states that Joe Biden has driven by the border in 2008. Then she doubles down by . . . blaming the Trump Administration, and this is acting like a juvenile. . . . So, one of the things that we really need . . . is an adult Administration in the White House. They need someone who is willing to tackle the crises that are at hand, rather than blaming past Administrations. Lastly, I would point out if they keep going down this track, they are going to start blaming the border crisis on Abraham Lincoln.

The President of the United States has a duty to provide a solution to this crisis and go down to the border. This crisis is not going away, so this Administration needs to treat it for what it is – a humanitarian crisis. We’re already in court demanding answers. We’ve filed a lawsuit against the Biden Administration over the border crisis. We are demanding accountability for this situation that is only going to get worse.
