Biden Taps Harris To Secure the Border (Sekulow Recap)
In a curious move, President Biden has now placed Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of U.S border security.
Today on Sekulow, we discussed the news that Vice President Harris has now been charged with the task of securing our southern border with Mexico.
Regarding the VP’s new responsibility, President Biden said:
There’s about five other major things she’s handling, but I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.
Vice President Harris also spoke at the announcement press conference yesterday:
There’s no question that this is a challenging situation. As the President has said, there are many factors that lead precedent to leave these countries. And while we are clear that people should not come to the border now, we also understand that we will enforce the law and that we also — because we can chew gum and walk at the same time — must address the root causes that — that cause people to make the trek, as the President has described, to come here.
This is of course the same person who was laughing about the border on Monday, and now it’s her job to lead our national response to the border crisis. Despite her apparent irreverence towards the gravity of the border crisis earlier this week, Vice President Harris has clearly changed her tune after President Biden’s announcement yesterday.
Gayle King on CBS This Morning yesterday asked Vice President Harris the following:
Rightly or wrongly, people are coming in record numbers because they believe the Biden administration has encouraged, certainly children, to come. What are you going to do about that? It’s chaotic, some are calling it a crisis, and you all – your team is under fire because both Republicans and Democrats have said look, if you’re going to change the Trump policy, the previous policy, at least have a game plan, and there doesn’t appear right now to be a game plan.
Vice President Harris responded with:
Well, okay, look, it’s a huge problem. I’m not going to pretend it’s not. It’s a huge problem. And – are there – are we looking at overcrowding at the border? Particularly with these kids? Yes.
Vice President Harris is a curious choice to lead the response to the crisis given she once compared ICE to the KKK. She has bad-mouthed the people who are on the frontlines and put their lives on the line to enforce the immigration laws of the United States and handle these crises. Now she’s going to lead the effort?
It’s difficult not to expect her efforts, because of her policy stances and attitudes towards the very people who work towards border security day in and day out, to fail in a miserable way and be horrible for the country.
