Ghost of Jack Smith: Democrat Senator Indicted for Bribery
New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine, will be indicted on bribery charges after a raid at the Senator’s home uncovered $100,000 in gold bars and almost $500,000 in cash. A previous indictment against Menendez resulted in a hung jury six years ago, making him the only sitting Senator in U.S. history to be indicted for separate criminal charges.
U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey and his wife were indicted Friday on charges that they took bribes of cash, gold bars and a luxury car for a range of corrupt acts, including having the Democrat use his influence over foreign affairs to benefit the authoritarian government of Egypt.
A search of the couple’s home turned up $100,000 in gold bars and $480,000 in hidden cash, said prosecutors, who announced the charges against the 69-year-old Democrat nearly six years after an earlier criminal case against him ended with a deadlocked jury.
The bribery charges center on Menendez’s alleged acceptance of bribes from businessmen in his state.
But can we trust the Biden Administration’s DOJ to do a proper job in its investigation? We hate to raise this question, but the Deep State corruption is so prevalent. We’ll keep a close eye on the forthcoming trial.
And who originally prosecuted Menendez six years ago? None other than Special Counsel Jack Smith, the investigator handpicked by Attorney General Merrick Garland to pursue criminal charges against former President Donald Trump. Six years ago, Smith secured an indictment but not a conviction. Will history repeat itself?
We’re not saying that the charges against Menendez aren’t legitimate. A court of law will determine if the Senator is guilty of accepting bribes. But we are seeing a troubling development of “prosecutorial fanaticism,” where prosecutors keep pursuing a target if they are initially unsuccessful in taking someone down. Now the prosecutors have attached the Senator’s wife to the charges as they go all out in prosecuting Menendez. Is a Deep State motivation at play here?
Don’t forget that just this week, Attorney General Merrick Garland testified before Congress that the DOJ has been dutifully pursuing charges against Hunter Biden and has not been weaponized against Christians or conservatives. Of course, we all know the DOJ dragged its feet in investigating Hunter and was caught targeting Christians. So you can’t blame us for being skeptical when the DOJ announces a new high-profile investigation.
ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs Mike Pompeo joined our show to address Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s threatening Americans at the U.N.:
The United States had just given [President Raisi] $6 billion. He then proceeded to threaten me and the others – with our lives – all the while being protected by Secret Service provided by the U.S. It is mind-numbingly bad U.S. policy to allow each of those things to happen. As for him, this guy is a bad guy. He’s known as the “Butcher of Tehran.” He’s killed thousands and thousands of Iranians. He is also responsible for the deaths of many American soldiers. . . . To allow him to come and abuse the U.N. and abuse the U.S. in this way is truly tragic and bad policy . . . and to be negotiating with them to give them space to create a nuclear weapons program is just ridiculous.
Secretary Pompeo is exactly right. The Biden Administration shouldn’t tolerate such abhorrent behavior at the U.N., and the U.S. definitely shouldn’t be funding the terrorist state’s attempt to get nuclear weapons.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast also discussed Biden’s controversial announcement of a new $325 million package for the Ukraine War.
