He was a 16-year-old Christian boy when he was falsely accused; now he has been sentenced to execution by hanging in Pakistan for blasphemy over statements he didn't even make.
A radical Muslim sectarian group manufactured the charges against this Christian boy when he was a minor and then pressured the judge to have him executed.
We've mobilized our legal team on the ground in Pakistan to represent him and appeal his case. This is the ultimate abominable human rights violation, and we'll take this case all the way to Pakistan's Supreme Court.
No one should be put to death for their faith. Time is of the essence. Take urgent action with us, become a recurring donor to support Shahzad and many others like him, as these are years-long legal battles that takes tremendous resources.
Unfortunately, it’s not just Shahzad
Our work began in Pakistan more than a decade ago when we received a case that is still ongoing. In Samuel Masih v. Niaz Ahmed Jutt, Jutt fraudulently transferred a Christian family’s 12.5 acres of agricultural land to his sons. We were able to obtain a favorable decision for the Christian family. However, our team is still applying to enforce that judgment for the Masih family to rightfully retake possession of their land.
In another land dispute, Munir Shahzad v. Wali Khan, our client’s son was murdered by two Muslim men, Wali Khan and Adam Khan. The Khans wanted to illegally occupy the Christian family’s land and attacked them. During the fight, they hit the Christian man’s son with a brick on the back of his head. His son died. Our team is now preparing for the trial.
In State v Faisal Bashir, a Muslim family attacked a Christian family, stabbing them multiple times, when the Christian family stopped them from illegally building a wall around the Christian family’s land in order to adjoin it to the Muslim family’s property. One of the four defendants is in prison, and the others are fugitives. The trial is ongoing.
In another tragic case, the Ayub brothers were falsely accused of “blasphemy” – framed for supposedly posting disparaging comments against the Prophet Muhammad online. There was no evidence that they did anything they were accused of doing, but they were still sentenced to execution. We’re appealing the case to Pakisan’s Supreme Court, and demanding the U.N. take action.
There is hope, we are able to win these cases
Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five, was sentenced to hang for offering a Muslim co-worker a cup of water. We pressured the U.N. and Pakistan to take action with the help of 800,000+ people from over 200 countries who signed our petition. The conviction was overturned and she was able to flee to Canada to avoid angry mobs.
In State v. Muhammad Abbas, we successfully prosecuted Muhammad Abbas in 2019, and he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing a 3-year-old Christian girl.
In Yasir Masih v. Station House Officer, we secured a victory for a Christian man who was threatened by his ex-wife and her paramour to convert to Islam. The group that was threatening Yasir was called to the police station and ordered not to harass him.
In State v. Khurram Shahzad, we won the case for a 19-year-old Christian man whose mother was murdered by Khurram Shahzad. The trial court sentenced Khurram to life in prison.
In State v. Khalil Ahmed, a 5-year-old Christian girl was sexually assaulted by Khalil Ahmed in 2018. Ahmed was sentenced to life imprisonment.
In Abdul Waleed v. Ramish Masih, Muslim boys beat up a Christian boy after he told his employer that one of the Muslim boys was stealing from the employer. Our team got involved and helped the parties reconcile and settle out of court.
We need your help, we can’t do this alone
In all of these cases, Christians were expected to just accept abuse, but instead we’ve been fighting against their abusers and demanding justice. When the abusers are met with resistance they frequently try to wait us out in court. This is why we’ve seen some of these cases taking over a decade to resolve. We have to be prepared to fight for their rights today, tomorrow, and far into the future.
Monthly donations provide us a foundation to support these drawn out legal battles. Please prayerfully consider supporting us over the long haul as we provide legal aid to these and many other persecuted Christians.
