A Christian-based rehabilitation center is taking legal action against Vestal, New York, for violating the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA) and other federal laws.

The American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) is representing Teen Challenge's Candlehouse, which wants to take over a property that was previously used as a chapel and community building to help women overcome their drug addictions.

"They finally obtained the permit to operate the church. It was with some resistance, however, but we are still fighting the town with regards to obtaining the proper permit to house the women in the residential home," reports Abigail Southerland, an ACLJ attorney who is handling the case.
