UN Update: The Truth About Defamation of Religions Resolution
I want to bring you an update on our efforts underway at the United Nations to oppose a dangerous resolution that will be introduced soon by the Organization of the Islamic Conference that targets Christianity and makes it a crime to speak out against Islam.
Our team at the U.N. already has visited 31 permanent missions of foreign delegations. These meetings were designed to demonstrate the dangers of the Defamation of Religions resolution, which is giving international cover to the persecution of Christians around the world.
Many of the delegations we visited yesterday expressed dismay about the recent ramifications of this resolution. One specific Ambassador shared that her previous support for the resolution had been based on an understanding that the resolution was simply about tolerance. However, in recent years, she has seen that our analysis has been correct, and the result has indeed been religious persecution.
At each stop, our team is reiterating the truth about this resolution and the fact that it violates international law. We continue to urge that this resolution be defeated.
Our work continues at the U.N. where we are continuing with follow-up visits to the delegations which have requested more information. We are also reaching out to additional delegations. Our team will also provide input on this critical issue at an academic roundtable being held at the U.N. on the issue.
We expect the final language of this years version of the Defamation of Religions resolution to be introduced at any time, and the first in a series of votes will follow shortly after introduction.
It is critically important that you stand with us as we work to defend the rights and freedoms of Christians facing persecution. Please add your name to our petition now.
And, as always, listen to Jay Sekulow Live! for updates.
