A Victory for Muslim Converts

I have some big news to report this morning!  Since July, weve been working on a very significant case involving a young Syrian couple seeking asylum in England.  As I mentioned on our radio broadcast several times, this case concerned a Christian couple who were raised within Islam.  In fact, the husband was training to be a radical Muslim cleric.  This young couple came to Christ several years ago and, together, they have been a tremendous witness to the power of the Gospel in the Muslim community in the United Kingdom (U.K.).

This summer at our European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) offices, we received an urgent plea for help from this couple who was facing deportation to Syria from the United Kingdom.  This was a certain death sentence for them.  Apostasy--changing ones religion from Islam to Christianity--is a crime punishable by death under Sharia law.  I knew how high the stakes were in this case, as it was literally a life-and-death struggle.

I assembled a team of lawyers and Government Affairs staff to immediately begin working on this case.  Jordan Sekulow helped organize the project and Roger Kiska from our ECLJ office testified as an expert at the hearings in the U.K.  Jacqueline Schaffer and Catherine Montgomery from our offices in Washington and Strasbourg respectively, made multiple trips to put together the representation in the case.

Ive had the opportunity to speak with this couple, and weve previously had the husband on our radio broadcast, Jay Sekulow Live!  Jordan expressed to me that after visiting with this couple for several days, he had no doubt that if we were successful in this case, they would be a tremendous witness within the Muslim community.

The Lord has provided a huge victory in this case.  As I mentioned before, these are always difficult cases and asylum is one of the most complex areas of the law.  However, this morning at about 7 a.m. EST, we received word of the victory.  I have included below the email we received just this morning, obviously removing the names of our clients for security reasons:

We will be running a special television series on this case in the next couple of weeks on our show, ACLJ This Week, so you will want to stay tuned for those exciting broadcasts.

I wanted to bring you this news this morning because I believe this is just the beginning of our work on behalf of those who have become Christians from the Muslim faith.  Thanks for upholding these fellow believers in your prayers!
