A Victory that Continues to Produce Great Results

I am pleased to update you on an important victory in the City of Detroit.  As I reported in an earlier post, our clientstwo Catholic seminarians at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroithad been prevented by the Detroit Police Department from spreading the Gospel and praying on the public sidewalks in Detroit, in particular, in front of a topless club, until the ACLJ intervened and secured written assurance from the City that our clients could resume their ministry without further harassment.

Senior Counsel Ed White has informed me that, as a result of the ACLJs intervention, our clients ministry is continuing and has even grown in number.

This past Friday evening, ten more seminarians joined our two clients to pray on the sidewalk in front of the topless club.  As you would expect, they received various responses from mockery by those going in and out of the club to admiration by Christians traveling past the club.

After a while, the manager of the club flagged down a Detroit police officer and requested that the officer remove the twelve seminarians from the sidewalk.  Our clients handed the officer the letter we had previously sent to the City and the Citys response.  The office read the letters and asked why the seminarians were there.  One of our clients responded that they were praying for the dignity of women and the conversion of both the men and the women that they would know the Author of Love and stop searching for false love.

The officer informed the manager of the club that the seminarians were within their rights and that they could remain on the sidewalk and continue to pray.  The manager was not pleased, but left the seminarians alone.

Our clients have told us they are very grateful for our work in this case as their ministry is actually expanding.  I want to thank all of you for your continued support and prayers - all critical elements in protecting the freedom of Christians - like these Seminarians in Detroit.
