This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the hundreds of victories by the ACLJ in 2011.

I would say it was unimaginable, but it actually happened. A baby, diagnosed with a terminal decease, was going to be taken off life support, against his parent’s will, in Canada. Canadian doctors obtained a court order to remove life support from “Baby Joseph,” as he became known, instead of performing a tracheotomy which would have allowed him to go home with his family.

The ACLJ went to work for Baby Joseph and his family to find a doctor in the U.S. who would be willing to care for this child and the will of his parents to allow him to spend his remaining days at home with his family. Together, with the help of Priests for Life, a catholic hospital here in the U.S. agreed to care for Baby Joseph. They performed the tracheotomy, and just in time for Easter, Baby Joseph was allowed to return home to spend his remaining months with his family.

While Baby Joseph past away several months later, his story is a stark reminder of the value of every human life and the importance of every single day we have on this earth.
