NBC removed “under God” from the Pledge during U.S. Open broadcast

It was a glaring omission in NBC’s patriotic tribute to the U.S. Open — America's most prestigious golf tournament. As schoolchildren recited the Pledge of Allegiance, NBC blatantly removed the words “under God” — TWICE — from their broadcast of the Pledge.

The outrage across America was instant. NBC issued a brief apology, but it was too little too late. At the ACLJ, we believe the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety — including the phrase “under God” — is worth defending, both in court and in the public arena. So we're sending a Letter of Protest to NBC and we want you to join with us.

Stand with us now to protect the Pledge. Demand that NBC put a policy in place to ensure that “under God” is included in the future when it airs the Pledge of Allegiance. Declare your membership with the ACLJ today and sign our Letter of Protest.

Letter of Protest: Protect the Pledge To: NBC USGA

Your “edit” of our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance during Sunday’s broadcast of the U.S. Open golf tournament is an outrage.

To twice remove the phrase “under God” from your supposedly patriotic feature was not only offensive to millions of American citizens, but it flies in the very face of patriotism, freedom, and constitutionally protected free speech. It was a glaring omission, an insult to the brave men and women who serve our country, risking their lives daily, under the flag you have denigrated.

I believe the Pledge of Allegiance is worth defending. The phrase “under God” is the centerpiece of the Pledge, not an afterthought, and certainly not a phrase to be censored. As a proud citizen of this nation, I stand with the American Center for Law and Justice and demand that such a blatant oversight never happens again: Put a policy in place to protect the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety. Include “under God” in future broadcasts of our nation’s Pledge.
