The night before Pastor Youcef’s attorney was taken into custody and imprisoned in one of Iran’s harshest prisons for his human rights work, he wrote one final letter.

He responded to a letter from one of our ACLJ members that we had passed along to him thanking him for his tireless and dedicated work defending Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.

Below is the English translation of Mohammad Ali Dadkhah’s letter – the last thing he penned before he was imprisoned:

I was delighted to receive your kindhearted letter. Your letter made me appreciate all the caring hearts that beat for the betterment of mankind. I have lived through much in my life, many of those experiences filled with sorrow and many of them filled with joy, nevertheless it might be interesting for you to know, that I will never forget the excitement and happiness that I felt upon hearing of the news that Pastor Nadarkhani will not be executed, and will walk out a free man. I will never forget that day for the rest of my life. That occasion lifted all the borders, governments, and views that separate us and brought mankind closer to each other. I pray to god for a lasting happiness in your life and a never-ending smile.

I hope that you continue to love mankind.

Your friend,
Mohammad Ali Dadkhah

Dadkhah has been imprisoned for his lifelong work defending human rights and religious liberty in Iran, and in large part for securing the release and acquittal of Pastor Youcef. He deserves the support of everyone committed to protecting religious liberty. Please sign up to tweet for Pastor Youcef’s attorney to demand his freedom, and share his story.
