The Health Care Showdown
This is a critical time in Washington as House Speaker Pelosi releases the House version of health care. Senate Majority Leader Reid is still keeping his version a secret and hasn't released any details of what's in or out of that bill yet.
We will be analyzing the nearly 2,000-page House bill and I want to encourage you to stand with us as we call on Congress to accomplish several things: End the secrecy - end the closed-door meetings and put health care in the spotlight - so everyone can see what's in these bills. Second, we're demading the lawmakers have at least 7 days to fully consider the contents of these measures. How can you vote on something before you've had time to thoroughly review the measures? And, third, we will continue to work to ensure that any provision that authorizes federal funding for abortions be removed from the bills.
We're encouraged by the dedication of pro-life Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich) who continues to garner support from his legislative colleagues in this area. Rep. Stupak is taking aggressive action - threatening to block health care reform unless Democratic leaders permit a floor vote on his amendment that would add language to prohibit federal dollars to be used to fund abortions.
You will hear a lot of talk about health care in the days ahead. You can stand with us and urge Congress to do the right thing. Add your name to our petition now. And, as always, listen to Jay Sekulow Live! for the latest on this developing story.
