Keep Up the Pressure - Stop Health Care Bill
It all comes down to this. The critical vote appears to be imminent. The leadership in Congress may very well resort to procedural tricks to push through a pro-abortion health care plan that most Americans don't want.
There's still time to make a difference. They don't yet have the votes. Now is the time to add your name to our petition to stop this flawed measure. Here's what we expect to unfold this weekend.
First, we expect the House Rules Committee, chaired by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), to issue a Rule tomorrow that will essentially govern debate on the Reconciliation bill. The text of this Rule is extremely important, as it will tell us whether or not the Slaughter Solution (also called deem and pass) will be used to ram this health care package through WITHOUT a direct vote on the measure itself.
Here are the two likely scenarios.
First, the Rule could simply signal that the House will bring the Senate bill up under regular order, and vote on that bill before moving to consideration of the Reconciliation bill, which will be debated in the Senate next week. Don't be fooled - if the Senate bill comes up for a vote - this bill is still a pro-abortion, government takeover of healthcare. However, this option forces members to vote on the actual health care bill itself. Under this scenario, the key vote will be on final passage of the bill and the appropriate vote would be NO.
However, if the Leadership decides to use the Slaughter Solution - a process by which the underlying Senate bill would be deemed as passed upon approval of either the Rule or the Reconciliation bill, the key vote will be on the Rule itself, and the appropriate vote will be NO. With this option, members would vote on whether the pro-abortion Senate bill should pass WITHOUT casting a direct vote on the package itself.
The House will need 216 votes to pass either option outlined above.
We have heard from thousands upon thousands in the past few days - on the phones and through our new online petition. If you haven't added your name, please do so right now.
We can still stop this flawed health care bill in its tracks. In addition to signing our petition online, take a moment and call your member of the House of Representatives.
Every vote is crucial, but below are some of the members who are most likely to still be undecided on this anticipated vote scheduled for Sunday. If your Congressional Representative is listed below, your involvement is needed all the more.
We will have additional information as it unfolds on Saturday and Sunday.
