The issue of health care reform is front-and-center again as President Obama unveils his own health care plan.  At the same time, the Democrat-controlled Congress is aggressively pushing its own troubling health care measures and has vowed to push this dangerous legislation through using a one-sided, legislative tactic called 'reconciliation.'

Here's the problem:  On the issue of abortion, President Obama's plan appears to be along the lines of what the Senate approved - and does not prohibit using federal funds to pay for abortions.  The Presidents plan does not appear to directly address the issue of abortion - thus leaving intact the existing Senate language, which does not adequately prevent federal funds from paying for abortions.

We had hoped that the President would adopt the abortion language from the House bill, including the Stupak amendment, which does adequately prevent federal funds from paying for abortions.

At the same time, President Obama's plan raises constitutional concerns.  Our Constitution clearly gives the legislative branch the authority to write our laws, not the President.

We've prepared a legal analysis of the President's plan.  It is posted here.

As the President's health care summit approaches on Thursday, there are troubling reports that the Democrat-controlled Congress remains dedicated to pushing health care through using a legislative maneuver called 'reconciliation.'  That's not what the American people want - some kind of legislative tactic - to push through healthcare reform.

The American people don't want federal funds used to pay for abortions.  They don't want government-run programs.  What the American people do want - and deserve - is health care reform that is affordable, effective and protects life.

It's time to say NO to reconciliation - It's time to start over with health care reform.  Send a powerful message to the President and Congress and sign on to our petition today.
