Ben Nelson Rejects Majority of Americans, Sells Out on Health Care

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson was the last Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had to buy off to get a vote by Christmas Eve on health care legislation that the majority of Americans oppose. Like most moderates, Senator Nelson offered his vote up for sale and Reid merely asked him to name his price. Following in the footsteps of "moderate" Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Nelson named the price.

What does it take to get Ben Nelson's vote? Harry Reid's health care bill will now include a provision requiring the federal government, with your tax dollars, to pay for all of Nebraska's new Medicaid recipients. What does it cost the American taxpayers? The "Nelson Buy Off" costs somewhere around $45 million over the next ten years. Guess how long Nebraska gets this new federal support out of your pockets? Forever.
