Sanction Iran Now
The situation in the Middle East continues to escalate in a dangerous direction. While the Obama Administration and the United Nations continue to focus on reprimanding Israel for building apartments in Jerusalem - its own capital city - the nation of Iran, the largest state-sponsor of terrorism in the world, is pursuing nuclear weapons with barely any meaningful repercussions.
The fact is this is the time that the United States needs to show leadership - and impose strong and meaningful sanctions against Iran now.
Congress has once again moved to impose sanctions on Iran, with both the House and Senate approving tougher sanctions that Senate Homeland Security Chairman Joe Lieberman called Irans last chance. However, it appears the Obama Administration prefers to work through the United Nations rather than the U.S. Congress. The fact is this is not the time to delay the enactment of these sanctions.
Such a move is not only irresponsible, but also tremendously alarming. There is not a moment to waste to ensure that the terrorist nation of Iran does not obtain full-scale nuclear weapons.
Rather than advocate for delay, the President must insist on sanctions immediately. And Congress should not wait for the President. They should immediately finalize the sanctions that have passed both the House and Senate, and demand his signature on them.
Finally, it must be clear that the United States means business. Iran must understand that it will not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons, and that they must stand down now.
If President Obama and the United States continue to accept further delays in Irans compliance, it will soon be too late, and the leading state-sponsor of terrorism will be armed for nuclear aggression. It's time to act now and impose crippling sanctions without delay.
Please add your name to this letter urging President Obama to take action now.
