Congress Introduces Resolution in Support of Pastor Youcef
Representative Joe Pitts (PA-16), along with several other Members of Congress, just introduced a resolution today in Congress in support of Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.
The resolution condemns “the Government of Iran for its continued persecution, imprisonment, and sentencing of Youcef Nadarkhani on the charge of apostasy,” and calls on the Iranian regime “to exonerate and immediately release Youcef Nadarkhani and all other individuals held or charged on account of their religion.”
This resolution is a major step forward in the worldwide effort to secure the release of Pastor Youcef. Seven Members of Congress have already joined in support of this resolution.
As Jordan Sekulow, ACLJ Executive Director, stated:
What we know is that Pastor Nadarkhani is still alive today, thanks to the growing concern and support from people around the globe. We're delighted that Secretary of State Clinton has also stepped forward in recent weeks to call attention to the Pastor's plight. This recent action taken by members of the U.S. Congress signifies an important step forward in raising this issue to a new level - keeping pressure on Iran and keeping Pastor Nadarkhani in the news. We are very grateful for the support of those Members of Congress who are standing for religious liberty and freedom and demanding that Iran release Pastor Nadarkhani immediately.
Pastor Youcef remains in an Iranian prison under a death sentence for his Christian faith, and the ACLJ remains committed to working toward his release.
The ACLJ’s Tweet for Youcef campaign to raise awareness about Pastor Youcef’s fate and increase pressure on Iran to secure his release has seen tremendous success in the first few weeks.
Nearly 1,500 individuals have signed up to allow the ACLJ to send one tweet a day through their Twitter account on Pastor Youcef’s behalf. The Tweet for Youcef campaign now reaches over 305,000 people in more than 180 countries daily.
If you haven’t already, please join the Tweet for Youcef effort here, and join Congress in lending him your voice to save his life.
