There's been a noteworthy development in the ongoing saga in Berkeley, CA.   As you know, the Marine recruiting office in downtown Berkeley has been the target of ongoing protests in recent weeks.

The Berkeley City Council has been in the middle of it all - first calling the Marines uninvited and unwelcome intruders.  There was a national outcry that included some 50,000 Americans who signed on to the ACLJ petition supporting pro-Marine legislation in Congress.  Berkeley City Council backed off that language but refused to apologize to the Marines.  And City Council continued its special treatment of the radical, anti-military group Code Pink by giving the group a free parking space outside the recruiting office.

Last Friday, the protesting came to a head outside the Marine Corps office.  Members of an opposition group tried to carry their protest beyond the recruiting office - to a nearby intersection.  That's when the police stepped in.   Police said a protester violated a city permit by screaming into a megaphone in an area beyond the recruiting office.  A scuffle ensued and police said they were forced to arrest two protesters - after the crowd surged against police.

The police did the right thing - taking action to uphold the law.
