It is not often that I get to experience firsthand the impact of our cases at the Supreme Court.  While I argue the legal position before the Court, the cases always involve other parties who have been seeking their constitutional rights to be vindicated by the high court.  It was almost 20 years ago that I argued the Lambs Chapel case before the Supreme Court of the United States.  That case involved access by church groups into school facilities to be utilized for worship and instruction.

On Easter Sunday, my wife Pam and I visited a church that is meeting in a high school because of the intervention of the American Center for Law and Justice.  I was able to experience firsthand what this access has meant to new churches developing in communities.  I wanted to share with you a thank-you note I received from the Pastor of Conduit Church.  His thank you to me is really a thank you to all of you.  Heres what he wrote:

Jay,

Thank you so much for the work on securing our lease with Independence High

School.

This Sunday we'll be meeting there for our first Church service, and I can

honestly say that it wouldnt have happened without your involvement.

I know you probably know this, but Carly [Litigation Counsel with the ACLJ] was incredible during the process.  She was easily accessible at all times.  She was professional, proactive, calm, and determined.  She attended two different School Board meetings with me which, in my opinion, was above and beyond the call of duty.   We were just a small little corner of your world, but she at NO time made me feel that way.  In fact it was just the opposite.  I felt like our case was a huge deal and that she cared.

On behalf of my wife and I, thank you so much for your support.

Darren

This case served as an important reminder that what happens at the Supreme Court of the United States impacts individuals right in their own community and in this particular case, impacted us as well.
