President Bush concludes his inauguration ceremonies by following through on another tradition dating back to George Washington.  The President is attending the National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral.  I will be in attendance and urge all of you to continue to pray for President Bush, his cabinet, and the nation.

The prayer service marks another important tradition involving prayer.  As you know, two members of the clergy delivered prayers at yesterday's inaugural ceremony - despite a challenge from Michael Newdow.  I want to thank the tens of thousands of people who responded to our campaign in support of inaugural prayer.  Newdow's challenge ultimately failed and the prayers took place -- but it is also clear that Newdow continues his assault on our time honored traditions.  He continues to challenge public prayer and has gone back to court to remove the Pledge of Allegiance from schools because of the phrase, "one nation under God."

I am very concerned about that strategy and have formed the Committee to Protect the Pledge and Prayer -- an opportunity for you to join with us at the ACLJ in working to protect these traditions.  Please take a moment and add your name to the committee today.
