I returned early this morning from Israel and arrived in our Washington office after a very successful trip to the Middle East.  I assembled our legislative team immediately to discuss the impending showdown expected to occur next week on the floor of the Senate.

I want you to know that all of the hard work that has been done on this filibuster issue - including the tens of thousands of people across the country who have signed our petition to end the judicial filibuster - will come into play probably the middle of next week when Senate Majority Leader Frist will move forward with President Bush's judicial nominees - who the Democrats have promised to filibuster.  This rules change really represents an important determination to follow the constitution.  Every judicial nominee deserves an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor.  That's the issue here.  Following the constitution.

At the same time, Judge William Pryor, who was appointed to a seat on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals by President Bush in a recess appointment, is expected to clear the Judiciary Committee tomorrow.  That means the nominations of Judge Pryor and others will be sent to the Senate floor for this historic showdown.

I want to thank everyone who has joined with us on this important issue.  We are in the 11th hour now and for those who have not yet signed on - your support will make a difference.  Stand with us now - sign on to our Petition to End Judicial Filibusters.  The time is fast approaching where this will take center stage on the floor of the Senate probably Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
