This is an important weekend for our national security and the war on terrorism.  First, Condoleezza Rice took the oath of office today from Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and became the nation's 66th Secretary of State.  She is exceptionally qualified and we believe she will play a pivotal role in the diplomatic efforts necessary to continue with our global war on terrorism and safeguaring our nation at home and abroad.

At the same time, the country of Iraq prepares for elections on Sunday -- an important moment in the reshaping of that country.  The violence will no doubt continue in an effort to terrorize the Iraqis and keep people from participating in the elections.  But democracy is very powerful and we applaud the brave men and women of Iraq who will go to the polls and take a stand for freedom this weekend.

The ACLJ is very concerned about our freedoms at home and abroad.  That is why we support President Bush and his administration in this global war on terrorism.  We must do all we can to protect our freedoms and our way of life.  That is why we stand in support of efforts by the Department of Justice and have been active in filing briefs with the Supreme Court of the United States in support of the administration's positions in the war on terror.  We will continue to get involved in these critical cases as they unfold.  And, we will keep you posted on developments as they occur.
