With the tragic news out of London this morningwhich, as I write this Daily Trial Notebook, indicates that at least 45 Londoners have been killed and over 1000 seriously injured--a renewed emphasis on the War on Terror must begin.  One of the tragic ironies in the terrorists attacks today is that at the very time the attacks were taking place, the G8 Summit was being held in Gleneagles, Scotland.   The focus of their discussion is on alleviating world hunger and the AIDS epidemic, especially in Africa.  Thus, at the very time world leaders were coming together to deal with these critically important issues facing humanity, innocent civilians were being struck down by ruthless terrorists in their ongoing attempt to disrupt the march of freedom and liberty.

As you know, our offices at the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and our European affiliates in Strasbourg, France, have been working on many related legal issues regarding the War on Terror.  In fact, on our radio broadcast this morning, Pat Monaghan, Senior Counsel for the ACLJ and the European Center for Law and Justice, will be talking with me live from our office in Strasbourg.  Obviously, Europe is in a state of shock as the terrorists continue their cruel brutality.  There are going to be renewed efforts in the European Parliament to deal with the ongoing terrorism issues; and you can rest assured that our European Center for Law and Justice will make sure that President Bushs views on how the war should be conducted are shared with European Parliament members.

On the domestic front, the battle over the Supreme Court of the United States continues to heat up.  Despite the Presidents call for a reduction in the rhetoric, Senator Chuck Schumer of New York has called for a war over the Presidents nominee.  Obviously, this language from Sen. Schumer, who serves on the Judiciary Committee, indicates the nature of the attacks that were foreseeing being leveled at the Presidents nominee.  On our website, we posted an article from the Legal Times which gives you a sense of the major players involved in the Supreme Court battle.  Our work at the American Center for Law and Justice is duly noted in this article.  Our Office of Governmental Affairs is working aggressively to ensure a smooth nomination process once the President puts forward his nominee.  This is going to be a major project throughout the summer months.  Please view the ACLJ website for frequent updates.
