Breaking News:  John Roberts Confirmed!

The United States Senate has confirmed John Robertss confirmation as the seventeenth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.  He was confirmed with a vote of 78-22.  A huge thank-you from all of us at the American Center for Law and Justice for your support for John Roberts over the last two months.  We now prepare for the next nomination which will be announced as early as tomorrow.

John Roberts Vote Taking Place This Morning

By 1:30 this afternoon, John Roberts should be confirmed as the seventeenth Chief Justice of the United States.  All of us at the American Center for Law and Justice want to thank each of our members and friends from around the country for your support of this important endeavor.

With the nature of the cases now pending before the Court, we are at one of the most important crossroads in U.S. history.  The case involving partial-birth abortion (PBA) has now been filed at the Supreme Court of the United States.  In addition to the PBA case, cases involving parental notification on abortion, the application of RICO to pro-life protests, and Oregons assisted-suicide law are all currently before the Court.  Obviously, for all of us at the ACLJ, this is a very busy time.

It is anticipated that President Bush will make his nomination to replace Justice OConnor as early as this afternoon.  I certainly think within the next 24-48 hours, we will know who Justice OConnors replacement will be.  The President has stated that he wants someone with a conservative judicial philosophy who will not legislate from the bench.  I am confident that the Presidents selection will reflect this judicial approach.

I will be in Washington today at a series of meetings with several of our senior staff regarding the next stage in the judicial nomination battle.
