The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced its official interpretation of ObamaCare that all health insurance plans must include coverage of abortion drugs.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius (pictured above) stated that “the final rule on preventive health services will ensure that women with health insurance coverage will have access to the full range of the Institute of Medicine’s recommended preventive services, including all FDA-approved forms of contraception.” FDA-approved “contraceptives” include abortion drugs like Plan B, Ella, and others.

This new regulation flies in the face of religious organizations, which had requested that HHS permit conscience exceptions for religious and other organizations objecting to abortions. HHS is merely granting these organizations an extra year to comply with this outrageous requirement.

The final HHS rule will now require religious organizations to provide insurance plans that cover abortions. In other words, a pro-life organization would now have to fully cover its employees’ abortions.

The ACLJ is deeply involved in this situation representing Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of St. Cecilia and is currently considering our legal options moving forward. We are also working to expose and defeat ObamaCare’s immense taxpayer-funded expansion of abortion. We will continue to keep you informed as this situation develops.
