The Overreach of Palestinian ‘Statehood’ at the United Nations
When the United Nations General Assembly voted to grant “non-member observer state” status to the “Palestinian entity,” it not only violated international law and decades of peace agreements between Israelis and Palestinians, it brought renewed instability to the Middle East. In all, 138 U.N. member states voted for the change in status for the “Palestinian entity,” 41 abstained and five were not present. Only nine states, Canada, Czech Republic, Israel, Mars... No, Hurricane Sandy Will Not Delay the Presidential Election
With millions of Americans still without power in the Northeast – and Election Day only six days away – we’ve received a number of questions about the election. Can it be delayed? Will it be delayed? Does the President have the power to delay an election? The short answers are: Yes (at least in theory), no, and no. The date of the popular vote for electors to the electoral college is set by a federal law, the Presidential Election Day Act of 1845, which sets Election Day as t... Continue Reading

One Person, One Vote, No Exceptions
We would all like to believe that free and fair elections are a goal that those from all political stripes support. It seems to only make sense that all sides would want rules and procedures that prohibit those who are not qualified to vote from doing so. When a non-citizen votes, a citizen is disenfranchised. When a person fraudulently casts multiple votes, valid votes are cancelled out. When a vote is cast on behalf of someone who is not registered or no longer living, it happens at the ex... Top 10 Public Controversies that Don’t Cost 825,000 Innocent Lives Per Year
Some of my sophisticated progressive Christian friends are rather fond of mocking simple folks like myself as “single-issue voters.” I know I’m only a caveman lawyer, and this complex world frightens and confuses me, but after scratching my noggin and using the Google for a bit, I came up with a list of 10 progressive policy controversies that don’t cost 825,000 innocent lives per year. The Romney/Ryan Medicare Plan; The Bush tax cuts; The Supreme Court’s Citiz... Continue Reading

Obama Lawsuit Could have Disastrous Effects on Military Voting Rights
Why are 15, non-partisan, veterans groups opposing President Obama’s lawsuit against an Ohio law that allows military personnel three extra days to vote before Election Day? The President’s campaign claims he is merely trying to extend voting rights. The reason these military groups - representing hundreds of thousands of veterans - oppose the President is because his claim is just plain false. Despite what the Obama re-election campaign says in press releases about wanting everyone... Continue Reading

Obama Trying to Limit Military Voting Rights
President Obama, the Commander-in-Chief, has filed a lawsuit to prevent the men and women of our military from having every opportunity to vote this election. As outrageous as it sounds, this is exactly what has happened. President Obama’s re-election campaign has filed a lawsuit in federal court to block a law allowing members of our armed forces a few extra days to cast their ballots before Election Day. This law does not extend their voting rights past election day; it only grants tho... Continue Reading

Will Senator Harry Reid Give ObamaCare Repeal a Vote?
Today, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives (the “People’s House”) voted to repeal ObamaCare. Now, all eyes turn to the Senate, but will Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid allow a vote? The American people have spoken. They have clearly rebuked President Obama’s massive pro-abortion tax increase. They have said no to the abortion-pill mandate, the abortion surcharge, and the assault on our religious liberty. Even before we could read the law to find out... Continue Reading

ObamaCare Focus Turns to Congress and Repeal Vote
The fight to challenge ObamaCare is over at the Supreme Court. Now, the focal point is Congress - and specifically the U.S. House of Representatives. House Speaker John Boehner put it bluntly: "This has to be ripped out by its roots. This is government taking over the entire health industry. The American people do not want to go down this path. It has to be ripped out and we need to start over one step at a time." A growing number of Americans understand that the Supreme Court got this one wro... Continue Reading

AG Contempt Vote: Congressional Stonewalling has Consequences
The contempt vote in the House against the Attorney General Holder underscores the serious nature of his refusal to cooperate with subpoenas issued to get to the bottom of Fast and Furious. The vote sends a powerful message - there are consequences to stonewalling and to providing false and misleading information to Congress. And it clears the way for this issue to be addressed in the courts. The fact is the Department of Justice provided the Congressional committee with a letter that was incor...
