The Muslim World's Problem
While publications like the Daily Beast and Mother Jones and networks like NPR are exposing the scandal of – gasp – Evangelical adoptions, perhaps they should cover a different religious scandal. Thanks to Jim Geraghty’s must-read Morning Jolt e-mail (subscribe if you haven’t — it’s consistently my favorite read of the day), I ran across this chart from The Economist detailing Muslim attitudes towards sharia law and apostasy: Read it and weep. In Egypt, for... Continue Reading

Execution Orders Issued for Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani
We are hearing reports from our contacts in Iran that the execution orders for Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani may have been issued. Pastor Youcef’s situation – an innocent man convicted and sentenced to death for becoming a Christian – has not been this dire since we first brought his case to your attention last year. It is unclear whether Pastor Youcef would have a right of appeal from the execution order. We know that the head of Iran’s Judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh... Continue Reading

Iran Judiciary Chief: Mistake to Join Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The BBC is reporting that Iran’s Judiciary Chief, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani – who has been involved in determining the fate of Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani – has “criticized the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” (UDHR), stating that Iran made a mistake when it signed the UDHR. Larijani defended Iran’s abysmal human rights record at the “Human Rights Forum and the Position of Iran and Islam” conference, reiterating Iranian President Ahma... Continue Reading

Youcef Nadarkhani: A Face of the Persecuted
Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani has become a face of the persecuted around the world. Since 2009, the Iranian regime has imprisoned Pastor Nadarkhani under the threat of death for his faith in Jesus Christ. His story has illuminated the plight of so many others who also face persecution for their faith. A year ago today, Salmaan Taseer the Governor of Pakistan’s Punjab province was brutally murdered by his bodyguard because he publicly supported overturning Pakistan’s blasphemy law. Taseer... 2011 Victories: UN Prohibits use of Shariah (Islamic) Law for Persecution
This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the hundreds of victories by the ACLJ in 2011. Religious persecution is rampant in the world today, and it is even more dangerous for Christians in Muslim nations ruled by Shariah (Islamic) law. Islamic governments often use Shariah law to persecute Christians and other faiths by imposing blasphemy and apostasy laws. One prominent example of this is the case of Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani who has been sentenced ... Continue Reading

State Department is Listening: Pastor Youcef Not Forgotten
Yesterday afternoon, a team of ACLJ attorneys met with officials from the U.S. Department of State to discuss the current situation in Iran and specifically our involvement in Pastor Nadarkhani’s case. This meeting was prompted by the State Department as a result of our relentless efforts to ensure that the diplomatic arm of the U.S. government was doing all it could to see that Pastor Youcef is released unconditionally. After repeated letters, phone calls, and a petition garnering nearly ... Continue Reading

As you know, we have been working on an international case involving life and death – the case of Youcef Nadarkhani – a Christian pastor in Iran who faces the death penalty because of his faith. In recent weeks, there have been many confusing reports promoted by Iran on Pastor Youcef’s conviction and death sentence. Let’s set the record straight once and for all. ACLJ attorneys have confirmed the acc... Continue Reading

From Arab Spring to Shariah Fall?
No one is mourning the demise of the authoritarian regimes in Tunisia and Egypt, much less the fall of the terrorist Moammar Gadhafi. The Middle East has for a long time groaned under the weight of oppressive dictators. Revolution, however, can be a very dangerous thing. We Americans have a soft spot for popular uprisings, for very good reason. Our own revolution created not only the world’s most prosperous, powerful, and virtuous democracy, it created a beacon of freedom for the entir... Continue Reading
