ACLJ to Federal Court: Reject Atheist Lawsuit & Keep Jesus Memorial in Place on Montana Mountain
The ACLJ filed an amicus brief on Friday defending the statue of Jesus that has stood for almost 60 years as a war memorial on Big Mountain in Montana. The brief was filed on behalf of the ACLJ, U.S. Members of Congress and over 106,000 ACLJ members who have signed our petition to support the memorial. This is the second brief the ACLJ has filed in this case, encouraging the court to allow the memorial to stay. The controversy over the memorial started over a year ago when Flathead National F... Mojave Desert Cross Rededicated on Veterans Day
A historic war memorial known as the Mojave Desert Cross was returned to its rightful place in a fitting Veterans Day ceremony at Sunrise Rock. The nearly 80-year-old war memorial cross had been at the center of a decade-long legal battle as the ACLU sought to have it removed from what was then federal land. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the high Court overturned a lower court ruling which had held the cross unconstitutional. Earlier this year, a settlement was reached tr... Court Must Reject Atheist Suit Targeting Jesus Statue in Montana
It's a troubling pattern that we see often. An atheist group is "offended" by a statue or memorial that they consider to be offensive. They file a federal lawsuit to try to get it removed. This time, it's happened in Montana - a case we have been involved in for more than a year. As you'll recall, a statue of Jesus was put in place on Big Mountain at the Whitefish Mountain Resort in Montana in the 1950's by WW II veterans who were also members of the Knights of Columbus. The veterans were insp... Continue Reading

ACLJ & 190K Americans to Court: Dismiss Atheist Suit Against Ground Zero Cross
The response has been overwhelming. We have heard from more than 190,000 Americans - including more than 150,000 online - who understand that a cross memorial at Ground Zero is a symbol of hope - a symbol that is a constitutional and appropriate exhibit at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. Today we filed our amicus brief backing the Ground Zero cross and urging a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by American Atheists - legal arguments that are both offensi... Continue Reading

WWII Veteran: To Tear Down Jesus Statue “Would Tear Me Down”
World War II veterans, Congressmen, and concerned citizens met together yesterday to discuss the war memorial statue of Jesus that is the center of an atheist lawsuit. The Freedom From Religion Foundation calls the nearly six decades old war memorial “a sham” and literally made a federal case of the matter filing suit to have it torn down. The memorial was placed by members of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division upon returning home as a reminder of the many similar statues... Continue Reading

Jesus Statue War Memorial Doesn’t Violate Constitution; It Honors Fallen Soldiers
Anything that could have a religious connotation offends them, and when it offends them, the Constitution requires that it be removed. That is the argument that the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) and other angry atheist groups try to make in court time and time again. This time it’s a nearly 60-year-old war memorial statue of Jesus – erected by World War II veterans as a reminder of the many similar statues they saw as they fought across Europe. The Freedom From Religion F... Continue Reading

Defending the War Memorial Statue of Jesus Atheists Call “A Sham”
The Freedom From Religion Foundation has tried to ban the National Motto, silence the Pledge of Allegiance, eradicate public prayer, and now remove a nearly six decades old World War II memorial. The goal of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, one of the more aptly named atheist groups in America, is to eradicate every vestige of our religious heritage as a nation, and in so doing eviscerate patriotic expression and tributes honoring the heroes that have fought and died for our freedoms. Upo... Continue Reading
