“The Battle for Vanderbilt Goes National”
That's the title of a post by John Leo at the Manhattan Institute's excellent "Minding the Campus" blog, and it's undoubtedly true. The battle for religious liberty at Vanderbilt is drawing the attention of CNN, Fox News, the Washington Post, and many other national outlets. The video above, produced by ACLJ's outstanding videographers at the request of concerned students and parents, has been viewed more than 20,000 times – a huge number for a video dealing with a local campus issue. Why... Continue Reading

Unity Will Defeat the Attack on Religion in This Country
People of faith across the globe have been under attack for many years. The Obama Administration has ramped up the attack in this country over the past three years. In the face of this increased attack on religion, the United States Catholic Bishops have released a Statement calling for "A Fortnight of Freedom." From June 21 to July 4 of this year, events will be held across the country to highlight the need for all Americans to defend our religious liberty. The obvious impetus for the Bishops... The Battle of Vanderbilt: The Tennessee Legislature Steps Up
One of the (many) great advantages of living in Tennessee is a legislature with a backbone. I've been reporting on a showdown here in Tennessee between Vanderbilt University, its religious students, and concerned alumni. The university has decided that its religious organizations are subject to a so-called "all-comers" policy and must be open to non-Christian leadership. At the same time, it has exempted the university's powerful Greek organizations — allowing the campus's most discriminat... Continue Reading

Senator Rubio Defends Religious Rights Against Obama Assault
The President has declared war without an Act of Congress. I don’t mean an armed conflict or putting soldiers in harm’s way. I refer to the President’s Department of Health and Human Services’ war on religious civil liberties. The President’s actions on this front have directly placed in harm’s way scores of religious institutions and charities, not to mention the people these ministries serve. Thankfully, members of Congress are moving forward in an attempt ... Continue Reading

Vanderbilt University’s Assault on Religious Liberty
A remarkable thing is happening down here in Nashville. An old story — a university attempts to throw Christian student groups off campus unless they are open to non-Christian leadership — has a very new twist. Hundreds of Christian students are mobilizing against the policy and challenging the administration directly. Tuesday night, Vanderbilt held a “town hall” to discuss the policy, and the room was packed with students wearing white (the color students chose to signal... Continue Reading

Rep. Pelosi, Conscience is More Than a ‘Thing’
In a recent interview with the Washington Post, Nancy Pelosi voiced her opposition to allow health care providers and entities to refuse to perform abortions for reasons of conscience. Knowing full well the efforts by the Catholic Church to encourage support for such conscience exemptions, Ms. Pelosi said, “I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it … but they have this conscience thing.” With respect to the House Minority Leader, Ms. Pelosi not only needs a... Giving Thanks
Giving thanks. Two words that have resonated with Americans from the very beginning. One of the first accounts of a Thanksgiving celebration dates back to 1621 when Pilgrims and Native Americans shared a meal in Plymouth. Nearly 170 years later, President George Washington issued a proclamation naming Thursday, November 26, 1789 as an official holiday of "sincere and humble thanks." And, in 1863, President Lincoln made the traditional Thanksgiving celebration a nationwide holiday to be commemo... Continue Reading

ACLJ – A Record of Impact
Though our constitutional freedoms and religious liberties are under constant attack, I wanted to share with you some of the important victories and ongoing work of the ACLJ in defense of faith, life, and liberty. In just the last year, the ACLJ has been involved in a number of critical cases impacting the freedoms we have as Americans, and have achieved some monumental victories here at home and around the world. One of the greatest challenges to life and liberty we have seen in recent memory... Continue Reading
