    Constitutional Questions Plague HHS Secretary

It was an extraordinary exchange. Rep. Trey Gowdy, (R-SC) asking Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sebelius to explain the constitutional implications involved in the HHS mandate, which is under attack for violating the religious beliefs of millions of Americans. The mandate requires employers to purchase health insurance for their employees that includes coverage for contraceptives, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs. We filed a federal lawsuit challenging this mandate in March   Continue Reading...

Defending Tea Party from IRS Assault

Tea party rally in Washington DC

It is outrageous. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is demanding information from Tea Party groups nationwide - information that is clearly beyond the scope of legitimate inquiries - information that violates the First Amendment. As we have already told you this week, we've been contacted by dozens of Tea Party groups that are facing what can only be described as an intimidation campaign - an IRS demand that the groups provide information about the internal workings of their organizations - q   Continue Reading...

Breaking: A Broad-Based IRS Assault on the Tea Party?

Demonstrators gather on the plaza near the U.S. Capitol to participate in a protest against Obama's fiscal and economic policies in Washington

In the last 24 hours, my colleagues at the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) have been in contact with literally dozens of tea party organizations that have received intrusive information demands from the IRS, demands that seriously implicate their First Amendment rights. These information demands follow Tea Party requests for 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) status and include questions like the following: Do you directly or indirectly communicate with members of legislative bodies? If so, prov   Continue Reading...

Helping to Get a Good News Club Started in Pennsylvania

Boy with new bible after baptism during Creation08 Christian music festival in Mount Union Pennsylvania

We were contacted by the Director of a Child Evangelism Fellowship organization in Pennsylvania. The organization had successfully started after-school Good News Club programs at various public schools in the area, but the Principal of one elementary school denied their request. Various curriculum-related and non-curriculum related activities and group meetings occurred at the school after hours, including Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts meetings. We spoke with the Director about the situation and s   Continue Reading...

    Pro-Abortion Fingerprints on HHS Mandate

Members of Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America hold "Stand Up for Women's Health" rally in Washington

Here's a shocker. In drafting the infamous contraception regulation, and the subsequent compromise, there apparently was little or no input from the pro-life community, but plenty of guidance from the pro-abortion crowd. Amazing. As you know, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued its mandate, requiring religious institutions, such as religious schools and hospitals, to include abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception in their insurance policies for employees.   Continue Reading...

Debate Over Obama Mandate & Compromise Intensifies

The American people are watching, and they don't like what they see. The issue: President Obama's mandate and follow-up compromise targeting people of faith - policies that violate religious liberty and the conscience rights of millions of Americans. We've been extremely active in calling attention to this problematic development. Our legal team has been writing about this issue for weeks now. We've been discussing this daily on our radio broadcast. We've heard from nearly 60,000 people who hav   Continue Reading...

You Can’t ‘Compromise’ on Religious Liberty

    U.S. President Obama

Hasn’t it always been liberals telling us to keep religion out of politics, legislation and government? Now, our liberal president and his administration have proven that they are committed to trying to do just that. The federal government has targeted Catholics and pro-life religiously affiliated organizations, schools, and hospitals by using the power granted to the executive branch in ObamaCare, underscoring warnings made by the ACLJ and other organizations that the 2,700+ page law was   Continue Reading...
