Serving as a Voice at the UN for My Imprisoned Husband Saeed Abedini
For nearly a year, the Iranian government has tried to silence my husband, Saeed Abedini, through illegal imprisonment, torture, and threats against our family. My husband, a U.S. citizen and loving father of our two young children, has been held in Iran's brutal Evin Prison because of his faith -- without a voice to fight for his freedom. I must, therefore, be his voice. In light of his failing health due to repeated beatings by his captors and their refusal to give him necessary medical car... Continue Reading

Pray for Oklahoma; Help Oklahoma.
At the ACLJ we are shocked at the devastation and loss in Oklahoma. Like the rest of the nation, we watched as the tornado cut a swathe of destruction through homes, businesses, and – yes – even schools. We saw the desperate and courageous rescue efforts. We prayed, but sometimes we have to do more. James Chapter 2 declares: 14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can [that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing ... Continue Reading

Defending Middle School Student’s Right to Openly Wear a Rosary
We recently assisted a middle school student in Texas, and his mother, who requested our help to ensure that the student is able to keep openly wearing his rosary while he is at school. The student has worn a rosary to school to symbolize and express his Christian faith, which has grown especially important to him during his continuing fight against cancer that has appeared in his throat and lungs. On multiple occasions, however, teachers and administrators told him to remove or hide his rosary... Continue Reading

Interfaith Groups Urge Secretary of State Kerry to use “Every Diplomatic Avenue” to Save Saeed
27 groups and prominent religious individuals have signed an international interfaith letter to Secretary of State John Kerry on Pastor Saeed Abadini’s behalf. This diverse group of individuals and organizations, including everyone from Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention to the American Islamic Congress (AIC), urges Secretary Kerry to “use every diplomatic avenue possible to secure Mr. Abedini’s unconditional release.” The group writes in support of two... Appellate Court Blocks HHS Mandate – ACLJ Clients’ Religious Liberty Protected
The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has just issued a critical ruling temporarily blocking the abortion-pill mandate from forcing our clients, business owners in Illinois, to violate their faith. The injunction pending appeal blocks the HHS mandate just days before the mandate was set to go into effect for our clients. With this important ruling, all of the ACLJ’s clients with pending litigation over the HHS mandate have now been granted a temporary reprieve from the mandate’s vio... Continue Reading

2012 Victories: Abortion Pill Mandate Temporarily Blocked, Religious Liberty Defended
This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the hundreds of victories by the ACLJ in 2012. Dozens of cases have been filed against President Obama’s abortion-pill mandate, which forces people of faith to pay for abortion pills in volition of their religious liberty. Yet, just a few weeks ago, a federal appellate court for the first time temporarily blocked the mandate for one of our clients. As this critical case move forward, our clients who own a busin... Pastor Saeed’s Wife Speaks Out
Christian Pastor Saeed Abedini, an American citizen, is languishing in an Iranian prison because of his faith. He is separated from his wife and two young children. Pastor Saeed’s wife, Naghmeh, shared with our radio audience today how he was arrested, the immense persecution and abuse he has endured, how his children miss their father, and how his faith is carrying him through this trial. Listen to her tell her husband’s compelling story of faith in the face of immense persecu... Continue Reading

Counting our Blessings this Thanksgiving
As Americans we have immense freedoms and enjoy great blessings. This year at the ACLJ we have a lot to be thankful for: from Pastor Youcef’s release to children being able to use their Bible in our public schools. Thank you for standing with us in defense of faith and freedom. Here are just a few of the things we can be thankful for this year: Thankful that women can see their baby and make the choice for life. Thankful that churches are free to practice their faith without intr... Continue Reading

Religious Liberty Defended on College Campus
We recently helped a student at a public university in Ohio, to obtain a religious exemption from her university’s requirement to live on campus. As a result, she will be able to live off campus in a faith-based household with other students who share her religious values. Although the university requires two years of residency in University Housing, it offers exemptions or releases from this requirement for numerous secular reasons. The student requested a personal hardship release based... Continue Reading
