A tourist tent stands in front of an Russian Orthodox church in Lesosibirsk town

The Slavic Centre for Law and Justice (SCLJ) – the Russian affiliate of the ACLJ – has won a major victory for churches and the rule of law in an area of the world where churches still face heavy regulation from the state. The SCLJ won a case before the Constitutional Court of Russia that will help prevent prosecutors from filing frivolous lawsuits against churches and other citizens. As the SCLJ noted, in Russia, it is critical that “[e]ach action brought against the Church   Continue Reading...

Defending Christian Leadership for Christian Groups

Anti-abortion advocate stands in prayer in front of Supreme Court in Washington DC

This week the ACLJ filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court in support of a cert petition filed by a Christian fraternity and a Christian sorority asking that the Court grant them the right to exist at San Diego State University. GREEK PRIME MINISTER DELIVERS CHECK TO ARCHBISHOP DIMITRIOS AT GROUND ZERO.

The ACLJ is pleased to announce that the New York Port Authority has reached an amicable agreement to allow St. Nicholas Church to be rebuilt, ten years after the church building was destroyed on September 11, 2011. Earlier this year, the ACLJ sent a strong letter to the Port Authority asserting that the Port Authority had misrepresented the nature of its preliminary agreement with St. Nicholas Church, engaged in fraud while moving away from negotiations, relied upon defamation to mask its activ   Continue Reading...

Standing Up to the ACLU in Tennessee

Students wearing t-shirts with U.S. flag arrive at school in Westminster

Our attorneys in Nashville are defending a school district against a lawsuit filed by the ACLU. We represent the Sumner County Schools in Gallatin, Tennessee. The ACLU filed a federal lawsuit against the school system as well as a motion for a temporary restraining order - trying to put a stop to an event scheduled for today - a drug and alcohol awareness event sponsored by the school system to be held at a church. The ACLU went to federal court to try and stop this event from taking place. I   Continue Reading...
