Christian Realtor’s Free Speech Rights Upheld in Virginia
We defended a Christian realtor and his real estate firm regarding a complaint filed against them with the Virginia Fair Housing Board due to their use of Christian content on their website. We are glad to report that their right to continue to include Christian content on their website has been upheld. The fair housing complaint alleged that our clients engaged in a discriminatory housing practice under Virginia law because the real estate firm’s website stated that it was “a Chris... Paul Ryan's Solid Pro-Life Record
In the next days and weeks, there will be a lot of attention on Paul Ryan’s economic expertise and experience with fiscal reform. He became famous in political circles for the “Ryan budget” and for his fearlessness and effectiveness in challenging President Obama in the midst of the Obamacare debate. But what many may not know is that Paul Ryan is a man completely committed to the cause of life. The Susan B. Anthony list outlines his record well: Congressman Ryan has voted c... Continue Reading

ObamaCare Decision Disappointing - Appeal to Come
It's a decision that is disappointing. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected our appeal in an ObamaCare challenge - an appeal which argued that the individual mandate, which forces Americans to purchase health insurance, violates the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. In rejecting our appeal, the appeals court failed to reinstate our federal lawsuit. We presented oral arguments before the panel in September and urged the appeals c... Continue Reading

Another ObamaCare Case Headed to the Supreme Court
Last week I told you that the Obama Administration has decided to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to take the case out of Florida (involving 26 states challenging ObamaCare) and review the decision of a federal appeals court striking the individual mandate of ObamaCare. Now, Virginia has filed its petition for writ of certiorari with the Supreme Court asking it to take its case and overturn the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that the Commonwealth lacked standing to sue against ObamaCare. ... Abortion Clinics Receiving Strict Regulation - Finally
For too long abortion clinics have been allowed to operate outside of any regulation that would help protect the lives of their female patients. Twenty-two states have taken action to correct this tragic oversight – Virginia is the latest to protect women’s health. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) just adopted proposed regulations written in response to SB 924 enacted by the Virginia General Assembly earlier this year. The stated purpose of these new regulations is “to ... Continue Reading

Disappointed but Not Deterred – ObamaCare will be Decided by Supreme Court
While today’s decision by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals rejecting Virginia’s challenge to ObamaCare is disappointing, it does nothing to change the fact that the Supreme Court will ultimately decide the constitutionally of this health care law. As you know, the ACLJ filed an amicus brief representing 49 Members of Congress – including House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor – and over 70,000 Americans from across the country. I am disappoi... Continue Reading

Stopping Planned Parenthood Expansion in VA
Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, receives hundreds of millions of dollars each year in federal taxpayer funds. It's a massive organization and one that continues to push forward with expansion plans in many parts of the country. There's some very encouraging news in Virginia where the state Department of Health has made a staff recommendation to deny Planned Parenthood’s application to add two operating rooms to its clinic in Virginia Beach. Before Planned Pa... Continue Reading

No Fast Track for ObamaCare
It rarely happens, but we were hopeful the Supreme Court would fast track the Commonwealth of Virginia's lawsuit challenging ObamaCare. Today, the high court said it would not expedite the matter, leaving it to proceed through the normal appeals court process. We're disappointed, but not surprised since the Supreme Court rarely steps in to expedite a case. However, it is unfortunate that the high court failed to put this case on the fast track since this issue is of the utmost importance and ... Continue Reading
