State Department Makes First Proactive Statement Calling for Saeed’s Release at UN
The U.S. State Department has made its first proactive statement on behalf of imprisoned U.S. citizen Saeed Abedini – a long overdue step in the right direction for the State Department. Yesterday, Ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe presented remarks before the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland calling for Pastor Saeed’s release. She stated: We note with particular concern the worsening plight of religious minority communities in Iran, including Christians, Sun... Continue Reading

EU Demands Pastor Saeed’s Release at UN, Where is the US?
Yesterday, despite the silence of the U.S. State Department, your voice was heard at the United Nations (U.N.) on behalf of imprisoned American Pastor Saeed Abedini. At the request of over 435,000 individuals around the world who signed our petition, the European Union (EU) demanded Iran release American Pastor Saeed at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. Our petition to the U.N., EU and Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights is making a tremendous impact, and Pastor Saeed’... Continue Reading

ACLJ Affiliate Presents Pastor Saeed’s Case Before United Nations Human Rights Council
Earlier this week, a team from the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), the ACLJ’s international affiliate with Special Consultative Status as an NGO with the United Nations (U.N.), presented Pastor Saeed Abedini’s case before the U.N. Human Rights Council. This meeting presented a critical opportunity to elevate Pastor Saeed’s case in the international arena. This presentation at the U.N. represents one of the many ways we are engaging the international community in... Continue Reading

Pastor Saeed’s Case Heads to the U.N.
Our international campaign to free Pastor Saeed is reaching a critical stage. Yesterday our European affiliate, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) – which is based in Strasbourg, France – filed a written statement on Saeed’s behalf before the United Nations Human Rights Council. The ECLJ has special consultative status as a non-governmental organization (NGO) at the U.N., which enables us to engage the U.N. and its member states in an official capacity. The Huma... Russian Government Begins to Shut Down Innocent Websites
An aggressive push to gain greater control over the Internet and restrict free speech is underway in Russia. Recently, a Russian-led coalition introduced a plan that would give the United Nations (U.N.) vast power to censor, regulate and essentially control the Internet. The U.S. government is strongly opposed to this proposal, as it would violate the very foundation of free speech and undermine the free flow of information and open conversation that the Internet provides. Fierce international ... Continue Reading

2012 Victories: Stopping Malicious Prosecutions of Israel at ICC
This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the hundreds of victories by the ACLJ in 2012. What Palestinian terrorists could not achieve through actual violence, rocket attacks, bombings, etc., they attempted to achieve through lawfare (warfare through the misuse of law). After Israel defended itself from terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians in 2009, the Palestinian Authority attempted to bring false war crimes charges against Israel at the International Crimi... Keep the Internet Out of the Hands of the United Nations
The Internet - a global tool in the exchange of information and ideas. Now, the very way that the Internet operates is being threatened by a proposal from Russia - a move that puts the free flow of information and ideas at risk. Russia is pushing for a move that would turn over control of the Internet from a US-based entity to the United Nations. This troubling power play would give unprecedented authority to the UN. Such a move would mean only one thing: censorship. And that is simply unaccep... Continue Reading

America’s Terrible Habit of Rewarding Lawlessness
Senator Barrasso’s timely post on Thursday calling for substantial financial consequences not only for the Palestinian Authority but also for those states that support the PA’s request for an upgrade in their U.N. status could not be more welcome. However, I have no real hope that we’ll take any substantive action to punish the PA (much less the U.N.) for its blatant violation of the Oslo Accords. In fact, if there is one consistent bipartisan strand in recent American foreign ... Continue Reading
