The Politics of Prosecution at AG Holder's Justice Department

Newsweek has published an interesting and very telling investigative story that reveals that despite a lot of fanfare about the creation of a massive task force to probe and prosecute financial fraud, Eric Holder's Justice Department has little to show after nearly four years. The story also raises important questions about whether the lack of prosecutions has any link to the fact that Holder has ties a top-tier law firm that represents some of the big financial institutions. In fact, criminal   Continue Reading...

AG Holder Needs a Lesson in the Second Amendment

In 1995, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder - who was serving as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia at the time - attempted to bolster his anti-gun campaign by expressing his desire to launch a public relations campaign to "really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way." That's right - his words - "brainwash people" to oppose gun ownership. Ridiculous. Let me say from the start, the use of guns to commit violent crimes is simply unacceptable. And no one shoul   Continue Reading...

    DOJ Promotion Raises Big Questions

Another controversial appointment has been made by Attorney General Eric Holder. This time his appointment to the number 3 post at the Department of Justice is raising important questions. Tony West served as assistant attorney general for the Civil Division and has now been named to acting associate attorney general. What you may not know, though, is that West represented convicted terrorist John Walker Lindh, who fought on behalf of the Taliban and aided Al Qaeda. He's now serving a 20-year p   Continue Reading...

    Attorney General Holder: Wrong Again

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder pauses at a news conference at the Justice Department in Washington

There's another troubling development out of the Justice Department - a problematic move by the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder now says the Justice Department will defend the deeply flawed mandate put forth by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) - the mandate that forces employers to provide abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception, even if it goes against their conscience. In testimony before a Congressional subcommittee, this statement from Holder: "I   Continue Reading...

AG Holder to be Grilled Over Fast & Furious "Cover-up"

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder before U.S. House Appropriations Committee in Washington

There's another showdown underway on Capitol Hill. This time, Attorney General Holder is faced with the most Congressional pressure yet, as he continues to refuse to take responsibility for Operation Fast & Furious, a botched Justice Department gunrunning program that left more than 2,000 weapons in the hands of Mexican drug gangs, and resulted in the death of 300 Mexican nationals - and one U.S. Border Patrol agent. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has had it with   Continue Reading...

More DOJ Dodging over "Fast & Furious"

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder pauses at a news conference at the Justice Department in Washington

We've told you about the decision by Patrick Cunningham, a top Justice Department official in Arizona, to plead the 5th Amendment and refuse to testify in an upcoming Congressional hearing about Operation Fast & Furious - a botched Justice Department gunrunning program that claimed the life of a U.S. Border Patrol agent after weapons ended up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels. Now, Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee   Continue Reading...

Congress Subpoenas Key DOJ Official on Fast & Furious

Attorney General Eric Holder testifies before the House Judiciary Committee

Representative Darrell Issa, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has subpoenaed a key Justice Department official regarding the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal. President Obama’s Justice Department and Attorney General Holder have continued to stonewall and hide the truth about this ill-conceived program that gave thousands guns to Mexican drug cartels and left one U.S. Border Patrol agent dead. The Hill has the latest: Issa … issued a subpoena fo   Continue Reading...

Congress Wants More Info From Atty. Gen. Holder on Fast & Furious

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder before U.S. House Appropriations Committee in Washington

Congress is once again focusing on the Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice concerning a scandal that is only likely to grow in scope. As you may recall, Congress has been trying to get to the bottom of what happened with Operation Fast & Furious, the deadly gun-walking program - weapons that ended up in the hands of drug smugglers in Mexico - that took the life of a U.S. border patrol agent. There have been numerous hearings, but the last time Attorney General Holder a   Continue Reading...

Political DOJ Memo Changes Nothing, Obama Appointments Still Unconstitutional

U.S. President Barack Obama speaks at Attorney General Eric Holder's ceremonial installation at George Washington University in Washington

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Legal Counsel has just released a memo backing President Obama’s “recess” appointments. The memo, authored by an Obama political appointee who herself was confirmed by the U.S. Senate, claims that “the President has the authority under the Recess Appointments Clause to make appointments during this period” – a period where the Senate was still in session. This is a sharp departure from longstanding precedent from   Continue Reading...
